Likelihood of advancement

Am I the only one who feels as if they will never get into a good paying dispatcher position? I've been at a 121 operation for a few years now "paying my dues" and it feels like moving on is just a wishlist item for most of us. Even our best dispatchers have accepted that this is just going to be their home now.
I'm tired of never having enough money to save for the future and needing to budget groceries to stay in the green all the while my friends and family are thousands of miles away. I like dispatching and coming into work doesn't stink, but it really feels like sticking it out is only going to bite me. Would it be dumb to start looking for other career options?

All 3 legacies put up postings within the last month. Granted, those are going to be very competitive especially with portions of the classes at some of them set aside for internals or specific regionals. But there is hiring.

The lack of recent hiring from WN and cargo as well as the issues at NK is making things harder than they were a few years ago, but the industry as a whole still has some growth going on.

No I feel the same way. It’s very discouraging.

With many airlines in the process of moving to FK and other changes on top of the usual retirements, I agree there is still a lot of growth coming. A friend at DL said they are waiting on HR to give the numbers for the changes expected to continue additional hiring on top of what has been recently posted. Heard similar at other carriers as well.

If you don’t mind me asking, are you at a regional or LCC?
