Life of an Airline Pilot

Just to update for anyone following along. Got stuck in Vegas, again but for only an hour. The day before when we where stuck we where there for a good 6 hours before they released us.

Yesterday my partner and I started our trip out east. Yesterday we flew RAL - IWA - ELP - SJT. We over nighted in San Angelo, TX. That place is horrible, haha.

Today we woke up and made a quick flight to Arlington, TX (GKY). Now we are stuck here waiting for our new plane to get out of its 100hr. Been sitting here for about 5 hours and it doesnt look like we will be leaving today.

We already know that Meridien Mississippi is our next stop.

-Rob

Were'd you stay in SJT? We were at the Comfort Inn. If you were there, did you check out the "Little River Club" next door? Talk about a poe-dunk dive bar. I was waiting for Rosanne and Dan to walk in at any moment.

When you fly over the Elm Grove VOR, look out the left side of the plane. If you look closely, you'll see a butt load of B-52's along the flightline at Barksdale AFB (kbad). Thats where I called home for 3 1/2 years. Good ole' Shreveport, LA.

How far do you plan on flying tomarrow. I predict either Dothan, Al, or Pensicola, Fl. By the time you get to any one of those places, the thunderstorms start popping up. That was always our experience. Maybe one, or at the max, two legs a day. It took forever, and dispatch was getting pissed. I personally thought it was funny.

Well around 530 the plane was done with its 100hr so we fueled filed and got in. I called dispatch and they where like "duh you field for mei but I show you going to mlu" so we had to refile. They just forgot to tell us the new plans. Who knows where we will head to now. Apparently the jet is taking the big wigs to kiwa tomorrow.

I'm not going anywere tomaroow :D

well yesterday we flew mlu-fty-crg. Now we are in Jacksonville. Apparently we are going to do some flying here and on Tuesday fly the jet back west. Today we are going over our logbooks with dispatch to see exactly how many hours we have left.

Say hi to Melody in Sky Harbor for me. Tell her thanks for letting us use the Jetta for Our entire stay. That was very cool.
Plus she's a real cutie

36 Days into the program at RAL, and today Im starting XCs.

Woke up at 650, took a shower, called dispatch "your flying with XXXX to SAC in 721CK. Give me a call when your filed, fueled and ready to go"

So I show up at 735, my partner and I quickly knock out a flight plan, he goes to file and we are then told that the aircraft has a dead battery. Sure enough I go out to the plane and nothing even comes on with the battery master. So I call dispatch and they say "we will notify MX." So now its a waiting game.

Welcome to the life :D

Isnt the unknown exciting?

Xc's were the best part of the program, have they sent you out east yet? Also ask Marty kindley if she can send you guys up to Portland, we did not get to as there were numerous WX activity and icing when I did my XC's. that cafe has good breakfast over at IWA and youll run into some pritty cool military pilots there as well. Just be careful I remember getting handed off to Falcon field instead of IWA by approach, and we were alreaddy within 1-3 mi of IWA before we found out about the error. good thing we had our plates out. Do you also notice their approach is very picky when you are within +-75 feet of your en route alt?

BTW Hiram your instructor?

this post makes me nostalgic for my good ole xc days... i even had to pull out my logbook to reminisce on those awesome flights..

So lets see what I have done since my last post in the this thread.

Sunday: CRG - FTY - CRG
Monday: CRG - SUA - CRG

Today was the jet ride, my XC partner flew from CRG to MEI and I flew from MEI to GKY. Pretty scary having the president, vice president and the presidents son sitting 10 feet behind you watching everything.

My XC's so far have been:

RAL - SAC 2.6
SAC - SLE 3.2
SLE - SAC 3.1
SAC - RAL 3.3
RAL - SAC 3.3
SAC - RAL 2.4
RAL - SAC 3.2
SAC - RAL 2.8
RAL - IWA 2.7
IWA - RAL 2.7
RAL - VGT - RAL 3.5 (I started to get tired of having so many lines taken up in my logbook)
RAL - VGT - RAL 3.6
RAL - IWA - ELP - SJT 7.5
SJT - GKY 1.6
GKY - MLU 2.4
MLU - FTY 3.1
FTY - CRG 2.3
CRG - FTY 2.7
FTY - CRG 2.1
CRG - SUA 1.6
SUA - CRG 1.7
CRG - MEI (XC partner flew the citation on this one)
MEI - GKY 1.5 Citation time

61.4hrs not including citation.

Hopefully tomorrow it will be GKY - ELP - IWA - RAL

Never thought I would say it, but I cant wait to get back to California.

August 20th is my COMM/ME checkride, and September 3rd is CFI in Vegas!! AHHHH

This program has gone by so fast I cant believe it.

Yup, been there done that out east. Cant wait to get home. We made it to Salem oregon on the first day of XCs and overnighted there. We never made it to the cafe in IWA, we just grabbed the courtesy car and went down the road. As for the approach, I didnt notice anything out of the ordinary, maybe its because we were maintaining our altitude.

And yes sir, HI was my instructor!

-Rob

Tried to go home, but Im still around. Passed my commercial multi this week. Now Im just sitting around waiting for CFI school on Sept 3rd.

-Rob

you have no idea who this is huh? hahah call me we need to work on these lesson plans before we leave next week.

Spinning is only for the cool people, and you're not one of them

....burn!!!!!

we do spin training here in phx. do you have to do it again in vegas?

Nope. If you are spin trained, you are good to go. The email we got from Vegas just says "if you have not been spin trained, show up on sunday for it" basically. We dont get it in RAL.
