License in the Mail

Mojo and JetDoc, sorry about that, guys. Hope everything works out for you! I'm trying to contact the DPE (why don't they put an e-mail address on the FSDO website?!?), i'll keep you posted. What truly frustrates me is that my hands are tied. It doesn't matter all the effort you've put in the process, and it doesn't matter you did everything right, you can still mess you life cause of someone who did not perform his job right. I'll try to get that extension. Please keep me posted of how you sorted this out.

Thanks everyone who tried to help!

Just call the FSDO that has jurisdiction in the area. Make an appointment. My FSDO is generally pretty helpful in these matters, but if you get an inspector who doesn't help you, ask to speak with the FSDO manager. Someone there has authority to extend your certificate.

I sent an email to the certification branch located in the link in a previous post this morning. Amazingly enough I got a response back... Already... Here is what I got back..

Our records indicate that your application dated 9/27/2013 for an ATP
Rating has been returned to the Indianapolis Flight Standards District
office for correction on 1/30/2014. We will expedite the processing of
your application after all corrections are made and the corrected
application file is returned to this office. Please contact the FSDO
immediately if you have any questions.

Airmen Certification Branch

This is the second time its been kicked back.. Looks like another extension for me......Yay!

HAHAHA, yours is playing out exactly like mine. Part of mine being kicked back was the new 50 hours in class rule. There wasn't anywhere to put it on the application.

Same here. Luckily, our POI (who I did the checkride with) was able to use some FAA kung fu to issue an emergency temporary, good for one month. Of course, that time passed and he had to send another one. Did you get hit by the 50 hours in class BS?
Guidance says 60 day extension. Office policy could be different and only good for 30 days.

JetDoc....should have been easy to do. Someone still the FSDO didn't know what to do. 8900.1 tells how. I've done several and "if I can do it anyone can"!!

Thanks everyone who jumped into this thread, specially BanditDriver, pilotmec, Mojo and Doc for your insights. I got things 90% resolved. I was worried cause 100 days after the checkride, the Airmen Certification Branch had nothing on their website (online services). I now have my ATP on FAA's system, so the remaining 10% is just waiting for the certificate to arrive in the mail.

So a few lessons learned:
1) Do your best to avoid using a handwritten / handtyped certificate. IACRA is there to be used. Sometimes you won't be able to do so, but not using it may piss your DPE and takes more time.
2) Keep a paper copy for yourself of everything you may need to "reconstruct" your file. ID presented to the examiner, IACRA, previous license, knowledge test report and everything else. Do not feel intimidated (as i did) to ask your DPE for a copy before he walks out of the office.
3) As soon as you feel you might have a problem like this, step up to solve it. Contact Airmen Certification Branch, FSDO and specially the DPE. They're more likely to solve your problem than you imagine (that was my case). I think 100 days (20 days short of the temporary expiry date) is a reasonable period of time for your license to appear on the system.
4) Celebrate small goals of your career.

Thanks again and have a nice weekend you all!

Should i be worried?

Worried, no. Concerned, yes. Proactive, definitely.

Do a little advance research by calling airman registry and asking about the status of your certificate. My best guess is that they have had it and have had to send it back for correction for some reason. (Not your error. Someone else along the way is most likely the person who made the error.) But, this will give you information you can give to the FSDO when you contact them. Try 1-866-878-2498.

Then, armed with whatever you learn from them, call the FSDO. Explain the situation. Some FSDOs will be really strict about needing an appointment, so don't just show up without calling first. It could be very frustrating and time wasting. When you talk with the inspector, ask about getting an emergency field issue certificate. If you are not close to the FSDO, ask if you could possibly scan your driver's license and email it to them and do the whole thing over email.

I'd recommend taking action just as soon as you can. If I read it correctly you're very close to running past the 120 days on your temporary.

Scanned copy of drivers license will not work. However, photo copy it and have it notarized and offer that to them. They might accept that. Might.

It depends on which inspector you contact. The possibilities run from one extreme to the other.

If you have a paper certificate that means it was probably a paper (not IACRA) 8710 - this slows the process considerably. Honestly I didn't know they let DPEs do it that way anymore.

Some will not work with IACRA. For instance, CFII Part 141 or MilComp CFI. Those have to be paper. Another reason is if IACRA goes down while check ride is being conducted you are either done or must do it paper. Government Efficiency!

I did a Falcon 900 type rating at DFW SimCom October 24th and had the new license before the end of the year. We use IACRA.

It's been my experience that inspectors won't issue emergency extensions once an application package has been rejected by the FAA. We usually don't have an issue getting them before that though.

IACRA now has a spot for 50 hours in class, previously you just had to write it into the permanent address box.

Realistically, if you hit 60 days and don't have anything start checking. At 90 days, it's time to start calling whomever issued your temp. Past that it may be very difficult to get anything done

Why are people having to put the 50 hours in class I thought that didn't start till august 1st

August first of last year? :).

We've been having to do it for the added type ratings, or ATP with added type. It's been a long time, and I don't remember the exact reason

I'd add a bit to that. Do both. If the computer system goes down or the DPE doesn't use IACRA, you're ready with paper. If the DPE uses IACRA, then you're ready there too.

Ideally, find a PDF copy of the FAA Form 8710-1 and fill it out using a computer. If you do fill it out by hand, make your handwriting as clear as possible. Those forms are scanned and kept FOREVER.

Did my type ride November 12th and just got my new temporary as 120 days is coming up. On another note, I renewed my CFI in very late October and I've had that new plastic for about a month. Go figure.
