Alright. This is a toughie.

October was once the lowest cost month of the year, the weather wasn’t as nuclear and it was a low travel month which means better availability for us to get there, lower loads and better room availability.

Since the advent of F1 coming to Las Vegas, October is now an expensive month to book Las Vegas, the strip is absolutely a (as we say in Fresno) a “TOW UP” time of the year with fences, visual blocks, construction and pedestrian barricades and is a profoundly crappy experience which literally wrecks the experience for all of us.

So I’m searching for a better time of the year to host it. Some time where the rates are reasonable and there’s not the wretched pox of F1 preparation going on, so I’m open to ideas.

I used to work with the LVCVA to target the best time to host events in Las Vegas, but since they’ve collaborated with F1 ($$$) they’re not about to go on record for a better weekend to plan.

Ideas?!

I haven’t participated in NJC (yet) so my opinion doesn’t hold much weight but how about different locations each year. Maybe based on a vote early enough to account for the logistics of the event.

I got no special love for Vegas, so I suggest the two equivalent alternatives of either Tijuana or Branson, MO (homes of the Caeser Salad and deep-fried sushi, respectively). Maybe San Diego or McMinnville/Portland.

Would it be helpful to have a deputy planner or coordinator? (not me, unless y'all really like Medieval Times and trains)

If you can get past all the MAGA gift shops and Jesus themed fried chicken places, Branson is actually beautiful, and a great family vacation destination. Table rock lake is paradise and Silver Dollar City, for my money, is the best theme park in the country.

As an enjoyer of Turkey Creek and remember-er when Silver Dollar City burned wood instead of propane for everything, I cannot.

My dollar votes, and I was thinking about that when considering places that have deece weather in late October.

McMinnville actually wouldn't be a bad spot. Great museum, we could all have a waterpark day on the 747 water slide, and there are some pretty good bars and restaurants in town. Although PDX obviously has more going on. Maybe PDX, but day trip to MMV.
