Let's take bets. Who will Blue merge with?

I don't see jetblue merging with anyone in the near future but if I had to guess my guess would be Republic. What else they going to do with the 30 CS300's they have coming in 2016 besides sell their positions in them.

Jetblue could also potentially merge with Spirit or Frontier.

They have no commonality other than fleet type. We have yet to see a merger were the market type that the two airlines serve is vastly different. Even though Southwest was WAY less of a full service airline than AirTran, they at least were similar. Spirit and Blue? Not even close.

A month ago, I'd have said we're gonna get taken over inside of a few years. After the investors day reveals, assuming we can pull it off as advertised, I think we're looking good and keeping our "stand alone" status at least for 5-7 years until the next big wave comes along. I don't think Emirates wants the US domestic market enough to buy into us, and there are much better investment opportunities for them closer to home. They'll continue to reap the benefits of the codeshare agreement, though. I hear our DTW-BOS is basically a feed for their A380s.

I'd prefer we stay our own entity, and with Virgin America's IPO, I don't see that merger as quite as feasible as 6 months ago. Delta would bring some serious DOJ issues up in JFK, and they may wind up just having to sell off a majority of the slots they'd get from us, which would kick the door wide open for SWA. I think the DOJ issues in JFK might actually be protecting us from a merger at this point since it's such a gamble as to what they'd want in order to approve it. An Alaska merger would be great as would Hawaiian. I actually DON'T want a Delta merger. They'd purely be buying us for Carribbean flying and slots in other airports, the culture of jetBlue would cease to exist and we'd probably wind being treated like red headed step children by both management and "OG" Delta pilots who were "hired, not acquired." Could probably extend that same sentiment to United and American as well. Spirit or Republic? God, I hope not. If I wanted to do that to customers, I'd work at Wal-Mart (no offense @ZapBrannigan). SWA would be a little less of a headache, but it would still be filled with suck given the track record with AirTran.

So, I guess what I'm hoping for (since I don't have much control other than voting on a CBA with a scope clause) is either no merger at all or one with Alaska, Hawaiian or Virgin America. In that order.

Oh the Middle East Carriers DO want their take on the US Domestic Market!

They are already taking care of the investment opportunities closer to their home as well.

As someone on the cusp of trying to enter the 121 world, mergers suck. It reduces the number of places to apply, and thus the number of opportunities to be hired.

I hope JetBlue doesn't merge with anyone, but instead continues to grow on its own merit.

There's been lots of speculation at the water cooler lately due to some of the recent changes.

Does the JB pilot group feel like they need to/want to merge in order to become a bigger/better company? From an outsider's POV, it seems as if JB had a meteoric rise through the '00s, and that growth seems to have plateaued.

I'm sure there are a lot of folks who worked for smaller 121 operators over the years who were merged/acquired and had their career expectations balloon positively because of it...but we hear plenty of pilots (both on the internet and IRL) who claim to have lost something because of an acquisition or merger.

So are blue pilots excited by the idea, or repulsed?

..you can go ahead a scratch Alaska off this list. Our management reiterates almost daily on how they want to remain "fiercely" independent.

The company is still growing, adding cities, type (321 with 2 variants), just built an international terminal extension at JFK, and roughly 7% more seats YOY. Maybe not as meteoric as in the '00s but still growing.

"In October, JetBlue showed robust growth, with a revenue passenger mile (or RPM) that increased to 2,999 million from 2,717 million, a year-over-year increase of 10.4%. JetBlue’s (JBLU) RPM growth was the highest among the major domestic airlines in October, followed by Alaska’s (ALK) 10%, Delta’s (DAL) 4.8%, and Southwest’s (LUV) 4.4%. United (UAL) and American (AAL) recorded less than 1% traffic growth."

How one feels about a merger is highly dependent on ones predicament. Guys living in secondary southern cities can't understand why we don't have 4 flights a day to (insert their commuting city). Maybe they didn't read the memo when they signed on but we're focused on the coasts and Carib. Me....I'm junior enough at the company where I'll probably be on the bottom of whatever combined list occurs.

Just on a seniority list issue I'd rather be folded into one of the 3 Mega-Carriers than SWA. The B6/Alaska/Hawaii trio sounds the most interesting, though I have no idea about their lists...

What would be the benefit of creating such an airline out of three, independently-successful "regional" airlines?

Jetblue has a large East Coast/Carib presence and does numerous transcons connecting these cities to the West. Out West we operate a smaller number of flights out of our LGB focus city going up and down the West Coast. But lets keep it simple and say our bread and butter is East Coast/Carib.

Alaska is kind of a mirror image but out West. They focus on the West/Alaska/Hawaii and then into Mexico.

Hawaiian would complement with wide bodies, a Pacific presence but I'm sure those frames could end up anywhere. They'd get a ton of feed out of NYC/LAX/SEA via the already developed networks of B6/Alaska.
