Let's hear stories of the good old days.

Remember, no matter if it's 2012 or 2042: "These Are the 'Good Old Days'".

I still remember old codgers telling me how crapy it was back in 1998, but then I look back at 1998 and think "Man, the fun I had, the people I met, WOW!". Things are a little tougher today in 2012, but I'll bet you in 2022 I'll look back in 2012 and think "Boy, those were interesting times!" and so on and so on.

I agree with Doug. The good ole days are among us. Sure, there were highly interesting times back in the 60's, 70's, and so forth but I am having the time of my life right now. Keep your eyes on the horizon and know aviation is not limited to just the United States. To the adventurous there is a whole big world to still go fly around in. I've been an expat pilot for about five years and I love it. Sure I miss the states sometimes but when we had the chance to go back, my family decided to stay abroad. So now we live in Hong Kong. I'm always in awe on trans-pacific or trans-atlantic flight and I am always looking forward to the adventure that awaits in some far off land.

Hell yeah!

I had dinner over Tehran, rode a tuk-tuk through the streets of Powai, India (suburb of Mumbai) and almost got in a nasty-assed wreck, talked to "Washington Radar" over Baghdad, Iraq, botched a landing in Amsterdam and got to debate the Brits on how Cricket will never be big in the US over the Atlantic on 123.45. Life will always be a challenge, but your perspective will be what creates the indelible memory.

Just found this short 1990's era American Airlines documentary....

As an adolescent in the mid 1990's I view everything after the 4 minutes mark as the "Glory Days of Aviation". I also remember those AA commercials made me want to be an airline pilot so bad!

Also watch "Airplaneski" documentary (on Aeroflot) after this one is done! It's in English. You will value the airline system in U.S. of A.
