Leather Jacket Question

I think I'm going to get the leather jacket from Perrone. Is the calfskin (extra $75) better than the goatskin?

I just ordered mine this week. Got the cheaper one. I'll let you know what I think when it arrives. I wonder if I can exchange it if I don't like what I receive.

I hate my Perrone leather jacket. WAY too heavy and cumbersome. My Columbia jacket is just as warm and WAY lighter, plus I don't look like some aviation geek going to dinner with ALL the other pilots wearing their Perrone leather jackets.

Good thing it was free, as there in no way I would pay for one.

.

Well at my airline the Perrone counts as a uniform outerwear. A Columbia jacket doesn't. I think at most airlines this would be the case.

Come on d00d, you want to be one of the cool guys, don't you!? A North Face fleece and black jeans are the in thing. Don't let things like uniform standards get you down!

:)

I laugh when you regional guys get your panites in a wad about uniforms. At my major, I'd venture to estimate that about 10% of the guys/gals wear non-regulation jackets and almost none of the line pilots, except the new Captains, bald guys, or general egomaniacs, wear their hat. The vast majority of us carry backpacks.

I find it hysterical that a lot of pilots complain about not being treated professionally when they have no desire to look professional. Interesting that the new SWA commercial makes a point to show a pilot putting on his hat when we all know SWA pilots don't wear them. Obviously some highly paid advertising/marketing people feel it projects a more professional image. I'm proud to work for a company that has one of the all time classic uniforms. Maybe I'm an egomaniac as you say but I take pride in wearing my uniform that I earned the priveledge of wearing and I'll fight tooth and nail to ensure we don't allow it to be denigrated with something as rediculous as a leather jacket or a backpack.

I laugh when you airline guys can't take the time to be concerned with dressing like a professional.

But to each their own.

Please. I rarely see mainline guys in Northface jackets, or warm up jackets. Yeah, some slack on the hat but that's about it. I'd say 10% non-compliance rate means people comply.

Did I forget to mention the black jeans or guys in hiphuggers? Yeah, they're hipsters turned pilot.

In my experience the pilots who proudly violate the uniform policy are equally sloppy in other areas of the job. Just an observation.

I go to work to do a job. I'm not trying to make a fashion statement.

What areas would those be? Passenger interaction and customer service? Always looking for a smooth altitude? Deviating around clouds because it "might" be bumpy? Well.... you got me there.
