Hi, I was wondering if it is possible to enroll in a business degree program and also learn flying @ Purdue or does one have to be in the Flight Program to be able to fly with them ?

Thankz

Technically it's possible but realistically it won't happen. I think the flight courses are open(or at least they used to be) to students outside of the Aviation program on a "space permitting basis" and I can tell you that it never happened in the 4 years I was there. Don't even consider that as a viable option - it won't work. Plus why would you want to?? It'll be cheaper for you to go to Lafayette Aviation and do your flying there and most if not all of their instructors are Purdue graduates/students just like the CFI's that teach PU's flight courses so the quality of instruction is very similar.

Purdue admitted the largest freshman flight program in its history this year and as a result extra space in the Warriors is limited to nonexistant. I wouldn't count on being able to fly in the Purdue program without majoring in flight. You could look into flying at the local FBO Lafayette Aviation, their rates are reasonable and aircraft are in generally good condition.

If you wanted to stay for an extra year (or two) you could double major. There is also a Mangement Minor that you can work on while working on BS in Aviation Technology. That is my aim for now, with a possible MBA or grad school in the future depending upon market conditions in three years. There are plenty of options since this is a large school, so feel free to take a look at Purdue's website and see what it has to offer.

In general, flight majors do not double major too often. There are not too many courses that coincide with other majors. However, nothing is impossible if you have the motivation.

Another thing, you could get your Private through Commercial Multi at Lafayette Aviation (local FBO) the first two years and then transfer into the last two years of the flight program. Each year, several students do this. It's tough to get in, but in my opinion could be worth it. So, take a look around and come back and ask if you have any more questions.
