laughable "be a pilot" ad

Re: laughable \"be a pilot\" ad

I toured FSA.

They made no claims about bridges to regionals or being in an RJ in 700 hours. They did show me their ASA program but that was when they actually had the ASA program going.

They didn't have any "slick" advertising except for the facilities, which were very nice. Not once did they try to tell me something that would make me think going there would give me an advantage when trying to get hired. They did give me the impression and I believe them that if I go there, I will graduate an extremely well trained pilot.

FlightSafety Academy

No, I do NOT feel that FSA promises all of these things. But I invite you to peruse their website, and prove me wrong. I don't have time to look through it, as I am at work. I don't want to get into an argument over this- I've graduated, I'm done with my flight training, and frankly, the more people that choose to go the FBO route, the more students I will have- so I could care less one way or the other if RAA, or FSA for that matter- wants to make false claims and screw people over. I only took exception to FSA being compared to RAA because I feel that FSA is a step above the rest. I never said you, or anyone else had to agree.

Let me put this another way

If you were running a website and you were sensitive about the advertising you would accept...unlike Flying mag and Flight Training mag. Lets say you don't like the claims that some big academies tend to make sometimes and you don't want to be part of the problem of misleading young wannabes about the industry and the career.

Would you accept advertising from anyone who would give you money? Would you accept advertising from FSA but not RAA? How about RAA but not Gulfstream?

Where do you draw the line and why?

Re: laughable \"be a pilot\" ad

I was never told that I would be guaranteed any interviews if I attended FSA. THe only interview I cared about when I completed the program was for a CFI slot and then I could build my time and when I had 1200-1300 hours with 400-50 multi then I might have a pretty good chance on getting interviewed by an airline. When I was a student there, airlines would show up unaanounced and interview high time CFI for positions with a regional airline but FSA never made that promise to anyone and to this day has never advertised this fact. I think what you are confused about is the ASA program at FSA. This program was offered to FSA grads and they had to interview with ASA BEFORE starting the program and they received a conditional offer of employment from ASA if the interview went well. Upon completion of the program and sim eval, the were then offered a class date with ASA. THis program was run per ASA need ONLY and was not a route many students took.

Re: Let me put this another way

When I was looking at large flight academies, I was turned on by FSA because they didn't feed you what most others did. They didn't tell me I didn't need a college degree and they gave me no promises, except that I would be well trained. Nothing about 0 time to airlines in 14 months, the industry is in an upswing, etc.

I decided not to go to a large flight school, but FSA gained my respect by not feeding me BS.

Re: Let me put this another way

I would draw the line at the point I feel someone is making false claims (or advertising PFT). Like I said, I don't think FSA makes any false claims. I think RAA does. The regional airlines are not "growing and constantly hiring new pilots"- they are furloughing, but a select few get lucky and get hired every now and then....and they sure as hell (for the most part) do NOT have 700 hours. On top of that, no matter where you train (with the exception of PFT)- you would be hard pressed to be in the right seat of a regional airliner in 14 months.

Just my $.02 for whatever its worth...

Re: Let me put this another way

It's marketing. You just need to read through the crap. It doesn't necessarily make them better or worse than any other school. Seen any prescription drug (Viagra, etc.) or SUV advertisements, just as examples, that you would take at face value?

Okay. I honestly want to understand what it is in those claims that seperates RAA from FSA.

For me, it's not the claims they make... it's the fact that RAA emailed me; FSA did not.

FSA bought Doug's jetcareers ad space; RAA did not, but RAA did have to get my email address from somewhere, wanna guess where?

Re: laughable \"be a pilot\" ad

Shooter13..thanks for the reply and your opinion. That was the kind of post I was looking for.

Eat,Sleep,Fly...I'm not trying to get you into an argument. I have spent time at the FSA site. There are a few things I take issue with but, all in all, I didn't see enough to trigger my "I-wouldn't-accept-their-advertising button". I don't know a lot about RAA, but I see their claims and see some things similar between what they are trying to do and what FSA is doing. RAA's claims are more...dramatic...for lack of a better word (or my lack of vocabulary) and I'm just wondering if I should advise the webmaster of a site I'm a big part of to reject RAA's advertising money.

Re: laughable \"be a pilot\" ad

Fair enough. Please don't take my posts to be disrespectful though...I really don't mean to come across sounding like that-but I think maybe I did. I dont seem to have the knack for conveying emotions and tone of voice with words.

Doesn't FSA guarantee interviews with some regionals if you do the right program? Isn't FSA's goal to get you to a regional cockpit with 700/100, if you do the right program? Does not FSA claim to be getting guys hired, even in this economy, if you do the right program? Does not FSA claim that you can go from zero hours to an airline seat in 14 months, if you do that right program

[/ QUOTE ]

I know this has been touched on, but again FSI makes none of these claims. No guaranteed interviews, no bridge programs, no BS. You can interview for a CFI slot (I think everyone knows there is a wait list) and there are internship programs at FlightSafety training centers availible for those on the wait list....

Oh yeah, they also offer quality training. That's really what a flight school is supposed to be about isn't it?
