landings!

I did my first engine out landing today (simulated of course) and it was nerv wracking lol I wanted to not look stupid and stuff but I ended up almost crashing (if it were real I would have landed about 20 yards before the threshold but the other 3 times I got it perfect although the last time i had trouble keeping it at 65kias since I was descending after trying to keep alitude as much as possible so I ended up floating as I crossed the threshold at 78kias but my instructor said better fast and high than low and slow. I also learned how to do forward slips those were some fun approaches!

That's why you practice them 'several' times with an instructor ... as long as you feel confident that you could get the job done if the situation arose.

Just remember on those forward slips to keep the nose down to prevent an accidental stall/spin.

With most runways we use, there's no need to try to put it *right* on the numbers. And if your engine is out, they'll forgive you if you don't glide through the patern exactly the way you do with a normal power on landing. Nothing wrong with keeping it a little tight. Slips are always fun, and useful for getting rid of any excesses.

As a side note to the slips, was anyone else taught to slip the plane if one of the wings were on fire such that the wind would blow the fire away from you? I guess that makes sense.
