Landing on a Closed Runway

About 20 miles from the airport I fly out of, here in Brazil, there is a big airport with a 8200 feet runway and a brand new terminal the size of an US class C.


Well it was built in 2007, but was never opened, it's abandoned...

I landed there couple times with the flying club piper cub, the first time after a simulated engine failure.....the CFI then took the controls and we took off from the Apron.

the touch down zone had no sign of any rubber

That's really sad. Reminds me a little of my home airport in WY. They built an 8,000' runway anticipating that my town would grow quickly and soon have regional jet service. The queen of England even visited in the '70s or '80s in a jet. But alas, only Beech 1900s and GA use the mammoth runway at the still uncontrolled field today.
