Landing Incident @ SFO

6 months to a 1 year isn't uncommon, sometimes more, sometimes less.

As an example, a good friend of my wife's little sister died about 13 months ago in a light single. Still haven't seen the final report, though the initial findings were published within a week. Another family friend died in his RV-7 a number of years ago, and I remember it was over a year as well before the final report was released. Like Mike said, it can take a while, but they are pretty quick with preliminary info. Perhaps higher profile mishaps soak up all the resources though. I'd bet this one will be out sooner than that, unless it is a lot more complicated than just being really bad pilots and flying a jet into the ground on one of SF Bay's few sunbathing days of the year.

CNN just aired a new amateur video of the crash as it happened. Will post a link if I can find one. Otherwise, just turn it on.

Some sources are reporting that Asiana is ruling out mechanical error. Seems ridiculously premature, ...unless maybe the pilot confessed something?

Not really.

The NTSB and Boeing have already analyzed all of the parameters the airplane sends to Boeing, the FDRs have been looked at, and the CVR most likely listened to.

They probably even know the cause of the accident at this time, they need to now find out what chain of events created that cause.

The CVR could be in the local Korean language. If it is, the NTSB will have to get interpreters to help, like they had to in the Egypt Air 990 crash.

Which is not hard to do in Washington DC.

The Egypt Air CVR was underwater as well.

Fox News Anchor: Investigators have moved away from "windshear" as a cause of this accident, and are now focused on something called a "microburst"

mindless drivel......(emphasis on mindless)

Wx expert: I am 100% certain it wasn't a microburst.

Anchor: Ok well, tell us about these microbursts.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Even for Fox News standards, that's pathetic.
