Well I landed my first CFI gig in the metro atlanta area, going in tomoroww to finalize details, get myself settled, etc......Have a few questions about how schools generally work with low time CFI's that havent ever given any dual.....

For the low time CFI;s, what did the school have you starting out doing? BFR's, checkouts, etc?....Or did they just throw you to the dogs and give you a primary student or a few?....

Howd you guys feel during the first few months of teaching? Im confident in my abilities and know I will get the job done but at the same time ive got a jitter or two because ive never had to teach someone before. I would assume what im feeling is normal, right? It almost feels strange from being the student for a few years and now somone is going to pay me to fly?.....Thanks for any input...........

Hi!

First of all, congratulations! This is a great accomplishment that will come with many many rewards as you will see in the first month of instruction given.

Student distribution depends on several factors. If you did most or all of your training at that facility than there is a good chance you will be assigned a mix of students. Otherwise, primary students seem to be the norm (private and instruments). It also depends of whether it is a 141 school or not as many typically have a more varied student body. Of course, it can also be anyone's guess as to who you will have.

For instance, I started with with two privates and one instrument (141 school). However, I was quickly assigned commercial students and a couple of CFIIs.

What you are feeling is very abnormal. In fact, as the FOI states it probably is an abnormal reaction to stress...NO, I'm just kidding!

It is absolutely normal!! You will learn so much, you will be surprised. My two most stressful situations when I first started were teaching landings to my first ever pre-private (not sending him for his solo surpringsly enough) and my first flight IMC with a student.

Enjoy your first few hours of dual given and remember that students look up to you. You set the standards!

I got the ratings at the flight school I work at, but my first student was another instructor getting his CFII. They mainly gave me instrument students because they were short on CFII's. I think most schools just give you what comes available.

Talk about being thrown into the fire, my boss gave me my first student today, Someone who has just had the presolo stagecheck and needs his crosswind landings cleaned up before solo. So I guess I will get the nervousness of the first solo signoff out of the way pretty quick.

Im at Astron, just a few buildings down, next to the blue EAA hangars....Went well today, going over things, etc..basically ill get whatever i bring in or what walks in the door........

I live on the southside down near TARA field (4A7). I did my flight review up there though...

I was kinda down near Tara the other day, fishing in Smarr.....my classmate from school is towing banners out of tara field in a husky.......starts tomorrow i think.........

Congrats, John, hope you do well.
