Anyone know anything about this center? Any info at all? Living situation, schools, daycare, morale of workers?

Thanks for any info.

Desert...crime...crap

Palmdale and Lancaster run into each other now and are generally referred to in the same breath.

The crime in both parts is bad. I hear there are "good" areas, but people often argue that even the ones that seem good are not.

The more I tell people this the harder it will become...

Try and live in Acton. It is a bit of a commute, but well worth it. Acton is a great little community and has milder weather because it is at a higher elevation. You could also go North side to Canyon Country. That's a nice area.

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! I was just reading through those pages and found the top 10 homicide cities in SoCal.

1. - LONG BEACH
2. - COMPTON
3. - INGLWOOD
4. - POMONA
5. - LYNWOOD
6. - LANCASTER
7. - PALMDALE
8. - HAWTHORNE
9. - SOUTH GATE
10. -EL MONTE

The funny part...

I LIVE IN LONG BEACH!

Anyway...we've been dealing with the idea that we might have to go to this ARTCC. So even living in LBC...when we tell people that we might have to move to Lancaster...they cringe and give us sympathetic hugs. So when people from the #1 homicide city don't wanna move there...that's bad.

My husband had some friends from OKC training go to that center. They say it is dirty, dirtier than most centers. The morale depends on the worker you talk to.

As far as the city surrounding...I don't know.

I grew up in that area. It is dirty, disgusting, the "nice" areas are either town that have populations of less than 3,000 or don't show up on the map. The closest I would move to ZLA would be this "nice" desert community called Juniper Hills. Also on the areas around ZLA, Valyermo (but other than a St. Andrew's Abbey there isn't much there) Llano, is a nice small rural community (and by rural I mean your place will probably be on 1+ miles of dirt road), and last, but most defiantly my favorite, Wrightwood, a beautiful resort community (Mt. High, for all those SoCal powder pounders), but the road is not nice driving to ZLA, and anyone runs the risk of getting snowed out of one's home suddenly.

ZLA does have a nice locality, 26.xx% currently, and is a level 12 facility, however, it is like a gang or a federal pen., two ways to leave, in a body bag, or cuffs. As far as how dirty and grimy the facility is.... I think the industrilogically polluted dirt outside the facility is cleaner... but I have only gone to visit, might have been housekeeping day, I don't recall.

Good thing I'll be commuting (in car 1 - 1.5 hours). I was thinking about taking the metro link train but after reading how the area is, I rather just drive in and out of that place.

Sucks to know my future work environment is going to be that dirty. But you gotta pay to play.

I think that most people can learn to be happy almost anywhere.

Like I said, I live in Long Beach, not the worst part, but not the best part by far. I moved here straight from perfect small town of about 10,000.

I don't feel anxious, unsafe or anything like that. I walk to the store at night...alone. Why do I feel safe? Well, because everyone else is walking to the store too. Plus parking is so bad that I usually have to walk quite a few blocks every night from where I park anyway. I can't believe how used to it I am. I live in a great little building with great neighbors. So it really is all about finding a home base where you are comfortable. Be diligent in your house hunting.

Ok, but picture Long Beach, WITH NOTHING TO DO. Yeah, I hate the Antelope Valley.

But if you must move to Palmdale, look in the area on Palmdale blvd (Elizabeth Lake Rd) past 10th St

Wait a minute! There are people in Long Beach that can afford to do stuff!?

Wow...give them my number. They can take me out with them and do stuff. Their treat of course.
