L.A area flight schools info needed

hi guys,

i'm looking for a part 141 flight school around L.A. any suggestions??

i also have an option to go to Miami so i would love to hear some suggestions about schools around there too.
 
I have a few suggestions, and places to avoid, but what rating are you looking at? (because that may make a difference.)
 
Justice Aviation in Santa Monica is a part 141 school and a good one. Van Nuys Flight Center in Van Nuys is also the same.
CP Aviation in Santa Paula airport is a great school just a little bit far.
There is a California Flight Center and ATP at Long Beach both with great reputations.
 
I second CP aviation if you're not too far away. Royal Aviation at John Wayne as well.
 
I received training for my certificates/ratings from several different schools in So Cal. Sunrise Aviation at John Wayne (SNA) was by far the best. If I could have done it all over, I would have done everything through Sunrise. The owners of the school are long time flight instructors and well respected in the flying community. I felt the syllabus was laid out well and the Instructors were quite good. Planes were kept in good mechanical shape.

My experience is based on 8-10 years ago if that matters.

If you want to do any aerobatic flying/unusual attitude awareness, Sunrise is one the best in the Western U.S. for that.
 
Tom Hamm did my private checkride....Dude is awesome. Very fair and knowledgeable. He is in Riverside, CA. Has a flight school called Eternal.....I forget the rest..
 
I have heard good things about Channel Islands Aviation in Camarillo, but that's probably a good drive for you. Not sure if they are Part 141

I did a discovery flight there 3 years ago and was impressed. I'm not there currently, though.
 
If you're closer to orange county, check out AFI or sunrise. AFI is at Fullerton and Sunrise at John Wayne. They're both very good schools. Can't tell you anything about the prices, but both places have instructors that have been there for a while. The maintenance is good at both places too. The added benefit of going to AFI is you might save a little money (depending on rental rates) because FUL is a sleepy little airport without much traffic...definitely the exact opposite at SNA.

PM Me or I_money if you want more info (or recent info) on Sunrise Aviation at John Wayne...not all bad, not all good...but before you fly with them, talk to us, please.

Is very expensive. Just have a good look at all the airplanes and make sure their fleet is well taken care of. I have seen some preatty bad maint. at some schools lately.
