Kudos to Delta Pilot

Yesterday I had the grave misfortune to be in Salt Lake City. Although the reason I was there was worth every single cent (G1000 training), it was snowing. I left 98 degrees F, clear, sunny, for 32 in SNOW???!!!

Anyways, on the flight there, ATC was running a 59-95 minute ground stop. One of Delta's MD-90 Captains took time out of his cockpit bull session to come through the cabin and take the brunt of the annoyed passengers' complaints. And he did it with good humor, including an encounter with a 'little 'ol lady' that said she was going to fine him for every minute they were late. He asked if she took Mastercard.

Hats off to Captain K. R. Wells for giving 142 current AND future Delta passengers a laugh.

Fly SAFE!

Thanks for that story!! It's great to hear about an airline pilot that actually has fun with his/her job, and isn't angry at the world. Some would have us believe that this profession is dead, and that we're silly, young and naive if we think we're going to enjoy it!!!

I, for one, have enjoyed every step of the way (except for those eights-on-pylons).

Oh yeah KSLC is wonderful now days with 34R/16L out of commission for a few months.

What time were you trying to leave? 7-8p?

Great. SLC has a runway out? I just found out I'll be doing my first ever leg in the 757 (IOE) into SLC a week from next Sunday around 6pm. Should be intersting....

Caught the 5pm ish flight there, wait-listed and caught the 7 PM flight back the next day: LAX-SLC-LAX.

Why the fuss about 34R closed? When I was there last, 34C was 34R and the airliners did just fine, except when I was in the pattern.

Fly SAFE!

We've got 34L/16R, 34R/16L, 35/17, and 32/14. Big boys only use 32/14 for taxi, and 35/17 is shorter and doesn't have the CAT capabilities of the other runways.

They're resurfacing 34R/16L from April 12 - June 10. From June 11 - Spet. 10 the runway will be open for daylight operations only. It will be fully functional Sept. 10.

Right around 1900 is the heaviest arrival bank for KSLC. SkyWest alone has 32 arrivals in a 49 minute period. Add Delta, Southwest, and everyone else on top of that... well you get the idea. There goes our #1 on time rank

Awesome. That's exactly the kind of captain I am going to be.

You mean you're not gonna tell young people to stay away from aviation while you complain that your job sucks??

Haha! Never. This job rocks. I see too many of my friends who HATE their jobs. I sure wouldn't want to be one of them. Some people just don't take a realistic viewpoint of life on the other side of the fence. If I got furloughed, I'd be beside myself.

If someone comes up and tells me it's their dream to be a pilot, well by gosh I'll try and encourage them the best I can!
