Anyone have anything good, or bad for that matter to say about Sunrise aviation at KSNA Orange County/John Wayne ? Im looking for a flight school in Orange Co., or within driving distance of. . . . any suggestions?

The words I usually hear regarding Sunrise aviation are Good training, Good airport (busy), but Expensive as heck! Their are some other options, but if money is not an issue, then this is a good location to look into. For your referance, I posted some links to a few previous posts/threads regarding this FBO.

Another option at that airport is Orange County Flight Center which is also located at John Wayne. Both have students who loved their training, and both have people who complain. The best bet is to look at each flight school, the maintaince, and find an instructor that fits you.

I went to Sunrise. Sato was my CFI. The school is good, good CFIs. The planes are okay. Mike the owner is selling the 152s or he has been. There are still few left though. The cheapest plane is like 92/block rate. It took me about 65hrs to get my pvt, because my first CFI bailed on me, and i had to take a break and then i got with Sato, and had to do some review flights. Lyn is also owner, i think. She is sweat and nice. It will run you about 8k-11k for your pvt. If you have any questions, let me know i will try my best to help you out.

The infamous Sato!

How has he been?! I remember when he was just a dispatcher when I was a student there. Do they still have cats running around? Sunrise was a great bunch with excellent instruction. The costs are what kept me from coming back.

I suggest getting away from SNA and going to LGB. I did my first few hours years ago at SNA and have found LGB a much better place to learn.
Nothing against SNA by any means. Flew in there a couple weeks ago and decided to do a touch n go due to the anticipated wait on the ground.
Long Beach Flying Club is my suggestion.

Got my multi from there. I just have a huge problem with their accounting practices. They like to charge you $15/month for membership dues. And when you pay you surprisingly get a notice in the mail month after month telling you that you didn't pay. Surprisingly other members get the same thing. I quite flying there about 4 years ago. Plus, I didn't like how they'd lose a plane or two a year in a crash. Kinda has bad karma.

Yeah, that and the age of the airplanes kinda prevented me from going there when I was first looking. Although, I'm glad I didn't go though, cause i ended up finding a school with newer planes, a good CFI, and where everyone knows you, usually smiles, and are very talkative.
