Known Crew Member Line

Has anyone gotten to use the Known Crew Member Line? Does it work pretty efficiently?

Another quesiton regarding the KCM. I have read the web-site regarding it. From what I can make out all that is required to get through the line is 1.) crew badge, 2.) secondary photo id, and 3.) being in uniform. What I'm curious is can you use the KCM line for deadheads, non-rev, and commuting? The reason I'm asking is because when I use my SIDA to go to work (or go through ops at an outstation) I can only use it if I'm operaitng the flight. If I'm flying in the back for any reason I am required to go through security. I am hoping that KCM will change that.

Thanks

Your points 1,2, and 3 pretty much summed it up, but in addition you of course must be with one of the participating airlines. Use it for flying, deadheads, commuting, etc., as long as you meet the criteria.

My question are you guys out there using the KCM line? I've only been through the terminal 3 checkpoint in ORD, and it is so far out of the way for the majority of crews, most have been just going through the old employee line rather than make the walk. Are the others better located? I have never seen anyone else using it when I am there.

There's one in terminal 2 as well. Last night a family friend who is a United pilot told me there is one down by baggage claim for terminal 1. I have yet to check it out though...

The web-site that I linked. Under their airport section you can click on the airports that have KCM lines and it will show a map and description of where each one is located.

I didn't see one in PHX today, but I hear the one in ORD is in a ridiculous location. Ridiculous to the point that it's actually more timely and efficient to just use the regular line.

Figures.

My airline is pushing for inclusion of FA's but I think it's a bunch of crap because ALPA and the ATA are sponsoring it, but I haven't seen any AFA or Teamster's dollars thrown at the program.

At ORD it's about a 2 minute walk down from our regular security line. Show your ID and you're through in 90 seconds! I'll never use the regular security line there again...

I still haven't heard/figured out what KCM actually is. Do they just have a separate line or they look you up in the database and you don't go through any screening?

Both. You go through a seperate line. From there they just look you up in the employee database and you just walk through. No screening. They still do random screening though.

It is basically a new / 'fancy' form of CrewPass.

I don't understand why we need further testing of this concept. CrewPass has been working just fine in CAE/PIT/BWI for several years now.

The concept has been proven more than enough... we like it / the TSA likes it / the passengers like it for us not cutting in line.

Enough with the testing... nationwide implementation NOW!

Unfortunately KCM is a provided by a different vendor using different technolgy so per the gov't it must be tested. I had DTW tsa agent tell me they don't like the idea and hope they can be the last to get it...

That is what is wrong with this whole thing. Just because they are using a new vendor to do what basically has already been done, the government must waste more tax dollars on a lengthy trial. With the money spent on KCM, they could have had CrewPass up and running at every airport where it is needed.

As far as DTW, I hope they are one of the first. Last time I went through security there, I was treated with lots of disrespect. I don't understand why they don't like it. One or two agents to run the computer and they don't have to worry about us cutting in line, unpacking all of our crap, and verifying that it was a crew bag that just went through the x-ray machine with more than 3 oz of liquid. :banghead:

Detroit always has issues with TSA. I have been told by TSA I can't cut to the front, had to take my shoes off in uniform, had more than 3oz of liquids confiscated, had secondary screening at the gate, and questions by morons as to why I have two headsets and mulitpack of AAA's in my flight bag. Hmm, it is called a backup and I am out for 18 days at time. It is far cheaper to buy the batts at COSTCO then 2 at time from airport vendor... I can't wait to get the special screening after I have spent a day at a gun range. Their little sniffer would send them all in panic...lol:banghead::banghead::banghead:

Miami is also a big PIMA too. Excuse me, but why do I need a passport to travel from Miami to Detroit? :banghead::banghead::banghead: :banghead:
