Knee pain at high altitudes

SpiraMirabilis

Possible Subversive
So the other day I had the opportunity/misfortune of having a long flight in the caravan (6hrs) and I ended up going to FL230 for fuel and wind purposes. Unpressurized, so I was wearing the O2 mask which is rather more uncomfortable than I anticipated.

However, cruising at at 23,000ft for a time my left knee started to hurt A LOT. I've never heard of this before, and this is the first time it has happened... it hurt enough that I couldn't even focus on the book..err flight manual I was trying to read.

When I descended down to 11,000ft it stopped hurting as badly and then went away all together. Have you heard of anything like this?

I wonder if there is some gas trapped in my kneecap that didn't like the change in pressures involved!!

Could always be from an old injury. Do you "crack" your knees or ankles like you crack your knuckles? If so, could be an old air bubble in there. I had one from a cyst that was removed in my neck a few years ago. It hurt above 10,000 for about a month, then went away.

My knees do occasionally make soft popping noises, well, I don't think anyone else could hear them so there not really noises per se, when I stand up.
