KLM and Disney's "Planes" screening

Europe 1, Birthplace of Aviation 0.

Seriously, wish we did more here in the states to foster fascination with aviation. Signed, a guy who has been stopped twice by the cops for taking photos of airplanes.

Airways does a flight to the North Pole out of LGA for one of the children's hospitals every year. They give the kids boarding passes, bring out a band and load them on a 321 that taxis around the airport for a bit, does a high speed(ish) taxi down the runway and then parks at another gate that is set up like the North Pole with Santa Clause.

I doubt a A321 could land at North Pole anyways. The airport is only like 4000ft long and gravel. ;)

That is just so damn cool!!! Did you see the looks on their tiny faces??? This is something these kids will remember the rest of their lives. They gave them special effects and even little bags of popcorn. I love it when some organization, group, business or a bunch of regular citizens do something special for children. I wonder how many of these kids will now be inspired to do something in aviation because of this terrific experience.

Goes to show, there are still some special, wonderful and positive moments in life.

Thanks for posting this.

I haven't seen this posted yet. Kind of cool for the kids.

EDIT: Can we not edit thread titles anymore? I put the emPHASIS on on the wrong sylLAble.

(actually, I think I made the wrong word possessive). @SteveC

Epic video... would NEVER see something like that from a U.S. carrier, sadly. I wish Disney could have done something like that with UAL, AA or DL.

And I fixed the title... the movie title in quotes with Disney having the possession (and the possessive tense) of the movie. AP English, the only AP class my high school offered. :D

I am not sure if they still do it but the old United used to do the same. They called it the "Fantasy Flight". When I worked at PDX, they used a 757 and pushed from E1. They actually took off for a 20 minute flight and, when they landed, parked at E6 where they had the entire gate area decorated to look like the North Pole.
The kids (disadvantaged and or sick) loved it!

I want one of the rollerbags!
They were so cute with the little wings flapping. lol

This is pretty cool though:

Looks like Delta still does it too. This is from Jan 2013.

Delta Hosts Fantasy Flight To Santa’s Workshop
By Liz Goff
More than 100 young patients from the Garden Of Dreams partner organizations, Cohen Children’s Medical Center and Harlem Dowling West Side Center for Children and Family Services used magic and the gift of imagination last month to power a jet from JFK International Airport to the North Pole.

Shaking bells and shouting, “Merry Christmas,” the youngsters and their families powered a Delta 767 to Santa’s workshop, where they met with Santa and received holiday gifts.

Christmas lights were strung from overhead bins on the aircraft as an in-flight attendant told passengers, “The North Pole is reporting cold weather and snow.”

An attendant told children to close all window shades – a special request from Santa, who worries that someone will discover the location of his secret workshop.

When the plane landed a short while later, a DJ played Christmas tunes as the children made their way to Santa’s Workshop, where they were greeted by Santa and Mrs. Claus and Santa’s elves.

The North Pole was actually a JFK hanger transformed into the North Pole – and Santa’s workshop. Volunteer employees of Delta Airlines hosted the “Fantasy Flight,” handling everything from passenger check-in to the North Pole landing.

The youngsters were also greeted upon landing by Knicks legend John Starks, Rangers legend Rod Gilbert, Liberty legend Kym Hampton, the Knicks City Dancers, the Radio City Rockettes, Maddie, the Liberty mascot and the Coca Cola polar bear, each of whom distributed gifts, signed autographs and posed for photos with the kids at the holiday party.

The party also featured interactive games, hockey and basketball activities, music, crafts and holiday treats.

The event was capped by a presentation by Henry Kaykenttall, Delta Airlines Vice President of Customer Service at JFK Airport, who handed a check for $10,000 to a representative of the Garden of Dreams Foundation, a gift from Delta Airlines.

I dont know. I was riding up front on Alaska and the captain had it down and turned around in less than 2000 feet. I was impressed. :)
