King Air 90 SIC time worth it?

Flying something high performance that can get to the flight levels will also enhance your level of understanding and experience.

I am sure you will get students that want to move onto turbine equiptment one day and the more experience you have in different facets of aviation will only allow you to assist in their endevour.

I think it would be great to get a few hours in something like that.

Yes, I've talked to other pilots at this company and they eat very, very well ;)

I'm not doing this for the money though. I mean, I wouldn't do it for free, but I'm not going to argue over $100 vs. $150 or something. I make my living at a totally separate job. I don't need the cash. I'm only going to fly for them a few days/month and they're going to be dropping $5000-$8000 on my training. I think it's a fair deal for both sides.

I was in your same shoes a couple years ago. Making pretty good money at the flight school and doing 135 King Air day trips on the side.

Most days consist of ..

Checking weather
File
135 paperwork
preflight
restock the plane (I hated this) :)
fly 30 min
sit at an FBO for 6 hours
fly 30 min
clean the plane
do 135 paperwork

Not tooo hard of work and I thought $250 was pretty fair. There are a lot worse ways to make $250.

At first making $100 per day wont seem bad because you will be learning some new things and really enjoying yourself. I give it a month or two before the newness wears off and the "Eff this for $100 a day" sets in.

Sorry to sound negative. Just don't let the PIC take advantage you, and make you do all the grunt work while he flirts with the chicks in the FBO.

I am doing the same, right seat in a 300 and I get $250/day and all expenses.

Hey, I'm all for getting paid well, but I think a person has to keep it all in perspective.

Suppose I flew full time, say, 4 days/week, 50 weeks/year. At $250/day, that's $50k/year...to be an SIC! Do you really think a full time SIC is worth $50k/year?

I make an average of $130/day at the flight school. So flying the King Air is a pay cut, but nothing terrible. Especially considering how little actual work or responsibility is involved. I'm certainly not going to get rich off this gig, but I don't think I'm getting ripped off, either.

I say you should take the offer. You may not be making a ton of money off of it or anything, but I think it would be a great experience. As many others have said, even if you aren't that interested in that part of flying, probably a lot of your students are. This is a way to get first hand knowledge of operations like this, and it could make you an even better instructor. I know you take great pride in your instruction and this would just be another way to better yourself.

No, but contract jobs always pay a daily rate that is much more than a comparable salaried position because the fact that you aren't called very often or usually that often.
