I have 515TT and 132 Multi engine and i got a call from Colgan yesterday and was told that they are very interested in me as a pilot, i just need to get multiengine current again and then i can go for an interview! I did not do any PFT etc, i got my ratings, instructed in a Warrior for 1 year and i am off (hopefully). I have 8 years in college with a medicine degree so i dont know if that helped!

Buffalo -

You have an MD? Might want to PM you concerning someone who was accepted at Upstate (your neck of the woods) but is having second thoughts (as I assume you did).

Colgan's schedules are all different depending on which of the 20 or so domiciles you're at. The one thing that is consistent is that we are a home every night airline (aside from our flyers down in Houston who do one night overnights a lot). You'll start and end your day at your domicile with anywhere from 4-6 total legs typically.

Talk about paying your dues!
Not to take away from the man's accomplishments, but 1 year in a PA28 isn't even close to being called "paying one's dues."

Maybe a sarcasm was missed?

congrats and get that taken care of an quick...

on the flip side, what the he11...3 months ago Colgan wouldnt look at me with 1500TT and 200Multi....granted i hadnt held a job in a year but christ.

current?

Just a quick question. What do you need to do for multi-engine currency? Beside 3 takeoffs and landings.

Sorry for my vagueness, I was referring to the fact that he had a medicine degree. That coupled with flight training costs has to be astronomical. Hence the "Talk about paying your dues!" comment.

They probably figured you wouldn't be around very long. And while I don't know the specifics of your job now, I have a feeling you're better off :)

I had the exact same problem as well, with 1900TT and 300 multi. None of the prop regionals called me - great lakes, commutair, colgan, piedemont, etc. Even Airnet and Ameriflight never called. I'm not really sure what their thinking is, maybe lower time people will bitch less? I don't know. I ended up getting a couple calls from the jet regionals though.

I did end up getting a call from Colgan, but only after I pestered them for a month. In retrospect, I am happy they didn't call (would've jumped at the chance with 500 TT though!).

I really think that being called with 515 TT really shows the importance of education in this business. I have 8 years of college which in a employers eyes means more than 300 more hours in a a Warrior etc.

Your right....and your def. qualified for the position, but hear me out on this. I'd rather have a pilot with a high school diploma, and no college with 2000 hours of flight time than a pilot with 8 years of college with 500 hours of flight time....I'm not saying your not qualified, I just don't think college should matter, I think the primary thing that airlines should look at is TT College is great, but seriously I don't need to practice doing works cited pages so I can do the VOR approach into runway 1. And I know I'll hear, "well it broadens up your horizons." Well, ok if I want to do that I will, its a free country, but I don't feel like "broadening up my Horizons" by doing pointless english assignments, alot of math I study I never use when flying, and computer science stuff that goes WAY beyond broadening up your horizons. But because the airlines want a degree I'll stop complaining now.

Just MY opinion though.

More than likely, a pilot with a college degree can write a paragraph without a run-on sentence that doesn't end!! ;)

Just get some bungy straps to hang on to the tail for the first 6 months. You wont have much to offer as a crewmember your first few months online. But thats a reality, and ever has to start somewhere, so good for you. Dont feel bad for getting a good start on things.
