Kicked off plane for taking a pic?

I get a feel that the truth is a little different from what he said, I'm not saying he was wrong, but I don't think he would have been removed if he was as courteous as he claims.

People want to be treated like cattle in the way they choose to do business with and reward airline operating practices, then when they are treated like cattle they complain.

There might be more to the story but not necessarily, as I've been in situations like this before where one minute everything is fine and 2 minutes later you're simply left wondering "what the hell just happened?"

I could easily see a situation where FA might have been having a terrible day, sick of arguing with passengers, what he took to be a simple explanation she took to be him talking back... she's frustrated and hastily complains to captain about passengers taking photos and not listening, captain decides to support his crew without question (probably a good policy in general), and the next thing you know he's off the plane.

Of course he presents himself as the poor abused maligned completely misunderstood passenger...

I am curious to hear the crew's version of what happened.

I've had FA's who can "throw the switch" pretty quickly. Fortunately, at the airline I worked at and in the base I worked, we all knew each other pretty well (certainly the pilots did) and we could anticipate who was going to want to use the aircrew authority more quickly than others. Most however were even keeled. I had a couple that, by the time they determined they were uncomfortable, I would just be ready to meet with the customer immediately with barely a mention.

I dont think the dude should have used the word "terrorist" and he also seemed a bit arrogant. However, some FAs are in desperate need of attitude adjustments and should have the ability to calmly resolve a minor situation like this one without escalating it. As for the pilot, he was only going off the information told to him by the FA. It sounds like he really didn't have the time or patience to change diapers.

use of the word "terrorist" was a bad choice (especially for a near million miler), but shouldn't preclude a flight. Not my place to judge, I wasn't there and she was...I go with the crew member without some sort of evidence to the contrary...every time.

It's been a long, long time since I've gotten crosswise with an FA. I understand my job as a pax (get in, stow my gear, put my butt in a seat - all quickly), their job as an FA (keeping us alive and safe, but while putting up with a lot of nonsense), and I treat them with respect and a smile. Life ain't that hard, kids.

Other food for thought as I'm chewing it over (taking a break from an RFP. God, how I hate RFPs.)

I've seen customers become assertive and polite....in their own heads. In other words, the customer believes they are being reasonable...nice even, but the tone and body language is disgustingly dismissive and condescending. They are being polite by omitting yelling obscenities, but cold rudeness is still rudeness, and actually is worse in some cases.

It's been my experience (or perhaps I'm naive) that most people being jerks don't know they're being that way. Suspect this may be the case with the passenger. What we think we're saying and doing is very often different from what others perceive.

If there really was an altercation between the passenger and flight attendant, I am sure it was recorded and posted on Youtube by someone who made it to their destination.

Even if the FA behaved badly, when told to put the phone away sit down, shut up, place your chair in upright position, and fasten your seat belt, or else, all passengers should comply. It would make turnarounds so much easier. No matter how politely he claims to have explained to her his needs to take a picture, he obviously was annoying enough to her that she did not want to put up with him for the next 8 hours.

Know what I just realized? If he had asked another passenger to video the altercation/exchange, that would have been within the policy that the FA and airline were accusing him of violating. Funny stuff.

If they say stop, stop.

Even if it's unreasonable as whether you're right or wrong, at that point you've already lost and if it's that important, make sure you write a factual letter as you know they absolutely will.

The calmest, most reasonable voice wins. The crewmember won't hear a thing about your angry letter and they'll probably throw some "quiet miles" at you, at best wash their hands of the situation and continue taking care of the other tens of millions of passengers that seem to get to the airport, onboard, deplane and don't require any extra attention.

IThe crewmember won't hear a thing about your angry letter...

Wait, you mean all those irate hand written letters I've been sending to Jeff Smisek, complaining about a certain pilot who's name rhymes with "Smug Sailor" have been a wasted effort!?!?
