Ketogenic life

Listening to a syrius radio talk show host who proposes no wheat products, but butter, fatty meat and lard are fine.
NO SUGAR!
Anyone else doing this?

Atkins, southbeach, wheatbelly, etc. More or less all the same, and all ABSOLUTELY WORK. Problem is, sticking to it. A very tiny cheat here or there, or accidentally eating hidden carbs, etc destroys it. Much more here:

Furthermore, it is a pretty tough diet to follow as a pilot, but I have done it. Sticking to it long term, I failed. Did lose almost all the weight I wanted to though. 55lbs. Like an alcoholic, once you fall off the wagon it may be tough climbing back on.

I highly recommend against it.. Not a sustainable diet plan. You'll have difficultly sticking to it and enjoying a social life, because ketogenic/very low carb is less than 30grams carbs per day! Like the above poster said it's okay for a short period of time (1 month or less) before you're hormones get all of whack, your sleep and mood will be compromised.

I did this back in 2014 and did get lean, but it came at a cost. I've tried every diet under the sun (paleo, VLC, Raw, High Carb mostly vegan, Vegetarian, Macrobiotic, 80/10/10, Blood type diet, Slow Carb, Primal, Bulletproof) and have found the basic, scientifically backed truths are the most effective:

If you're a man and want to lose weight:

Cut Calories by 25% (and track it)
Eat lots of protein (1gm/ lb of lean mass every day) to minimize muscle catabolism in the calorie deficit, and to feel satiated
Lift Heavy weights regularly, and get stronger

This is the combination that will result in the fittest, healthiest, strongest and most visually appealing body for someone not taking performance enhancing drugs. You can save yourself a lot of time and headaches by heeding this advice.

I agree with what was said above. It's VERY difficult for people to keep to a diet like this. 99% of people will think "i've been doing so good this month, it will be ok if I eat a couple cookies." Wrong. Your body has actually changed the way it processes sugar and carbs and that ruins it. You can slowly reintroduce fruit and things long-term but again, it's very difficult to sustain, especially as a pilot.
