KCM

I'm still scarred from pre-Kcm days of fighting through the terminal A security lines at EWR. Super narrow, long lines...

Not sure why you would. If everyone waited patiently in line that problem would be self correcting.

Or, you could have language in your contract that provides vans for just the flight crew if the FA roll time is earlier.

I think most people's concern about FAs having access was somebody trying to carry something stupid through and ending the program. So far it's been a pretty 50/50 split on who's been caught with prohibited stuff though.

I'm sure most regionals would be tripping over themselves to do that. Not. :P

Isn't the ultimate goal less work+more money?
No.
The ultimate goal is to be happy and love what you do.
My goal is to fly 135 bush planes and floatplanes. I like remoteness, freedom, adventure, variety, privacy, a slower pace, and helping people. I dislike cities, crowds, traffic, the rat race, and large corporations. I'd rather spend the night under the stars in the woods or at a lake than in a hotel. I don't think I would be happy in 121 for all of those reasons and more. Maybe someday I'll want to try it out to see what it's like, but probably not.
A big paycheck doesn't mean anything if you aren't happy and proud of what you do. Life is too short, enjoy the experience while you can. Be happy-driven, not consumer driven.

I disagree with the idea that only ALPA members can enjoy a systemic improvement. If a non-ALPA group developed an improvement in aviation, should they be able to limit it to non-ALPA carriers/people?

It's about the common good, not good just for one category of people.

It's cultural appropriation of ALPA culture for non-ALPA people to use KCM.

A word to the wise. Every time you scan through KCM, your employer knows. Every time you access CASS, your employer knows. Any time you scan your ID for ANYTHING, your employer knows.

Now you know, and knowing is half the battle.

KCM and CASS access data is stored with ARINC. A company could (and does) request the access logs though.

i think it's more shocking that people didn't know/expect this.

I'd wager that a high percentage have a sticker over the lens on their EFB because they believe the company can watch them, but are oblivious to the company actually accessing KCM data or their SM content.

As the newest of all the newest airline pilots, I have to say KCM is the best thing ever. My thanks to those who advocated for this awesome, awesome, thing.

Welcome to the 121 world and yes it is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Remember the TSA givith and the TSA can taketh away. Follow the rules and insist that others in your crew do likewise. It's not a captain / FO thing. It's a pilot / Flight Attendant thing.

Our profession or a stupid Flight Attendant are the only things that can screw this up. Don't bring a gun to work unless you are an FFDO and approved to carry. Don't try to get friends o or family through. I was told that if an item ain't authorized to go through the regular, with only a few exceptions, it is not authorized in the KCM line.

The TSA does do random pulls and audits compliance.

My favorite are the people that act shocked when they get in trouble for not following the rules.

And if you have any questions on this, I'm 100% sure your ALPA Security coordinator would love to help!

I have tape over mine. is the company smart enough to do it? highly doubtful.....but from my experience with things related to this...it's absolutely possible.

It's funny, those that haven't had experience in the realm of cyber security crime, call it "conspiracy."
Those who have had briefs from people deep in cyber security world, call it "insurance."

Recently held back by a CSR so "Global Services" could use the KCM line for ID checks. Wondering if @Seggy is aware....

Because they don't understand what freeloading is, perhaps. The sponsor of a public improvement can't claim exclusive rights over said improvement. Unions gave given us a lot of dramatic public improvements over the last 100 years, and we all benefit from them as a society.

When did we become so selfish as a country? Whatever happened to the common good? I paid school taxes happily long before I had a child, yet these days I hear people say, "I don't have a kid, why do I pay school taxes?"

/rant

I don't have kids and not going to have any either...but I gladly pay school taxes. Well educated children generally lead to improved societies. I sure as hell don't want more dumbass kids growing up to suggest they have the best words and bigly brains and prove otherwise on a daily basis.

Something about a rising tide and boats. If you have the means to improve society as a whole, it's good for you as an individual too.

What are you doing with the EFB that you're concerned the company is spying on you? Personally, the only time mine is on and open is in the cockpit. They wanna watch me stare out the window in cruise, go for it. The fact that I can connect to F999A maybe 20% of the time leaves me with the warm fuzzies that they aren't watching.
