KC-135 down, another damaged

I remembered when they pulled parachutes from 135’s around 2008. Did they ever get them back?

I think C-17 crews have chutes aboard.

Looks like a Beale Reserve bird. 914th squadron of the 940th Wing. Doesn’t mean the other jet was same unit, as the tankers operating overseas are from a number of different units, and operate interchangeably. Tankers and transport planes don’t deploy as whole squadrons, such that tactical jets do.

You’re right, I think ANG 135’s have commonly deployed in pairs but two units could be involved.

TN news reporting an “unnamed high-ranking officer” says downed plane was not from the 134th.

A couple years ago I was a guest on a 164th C-17 and observed tanking ops with a 134th KC-135.

Reserve and ANG heavies usually deploy with aircraft and personnel from two or three different units per singular rotation, that makes up the deployed “provisional” unit.

Most likely scenario is a cell of tankers, often three. Likely not even from the same unit, operating in the same enroute track or refueling hold track, not emitting anything, lights out, just procedural deconfliction of maybe 500 to 1000 vertical maybe a mile or less lateral.
