I'm curious what the interior looked like with pax in a freighter. No windows or IFE, that's gotta be a dull flight.

I know there is a lot of planning factors we don't know, and I know how US TRANSCOM works (I don't know if that's who contracted the flight), but from the peanut gallery this looks like a colossal waste of an available asset, especially considering there are still a lot of Americans in Wuhan who want to leave. My guess would that the entire lower deck was empty unless all of the people were allowed to bring a large volume of items with them.

Just guessing , but maybe configuring seating on short notice in a cargo bird that was the most they could do.
That does not answer why other options that are already passenger configured were not chosen.
and Roger Roger beat me to it, maybe the nature of disinfecting or isolating a cargo ship was a good solution.

The original plan involved evacing closer to 300 people, however, many people were unable to get to the airport or didn't pass health screening tests in time to get on the plane.

that’s my thought. Probably a lot easier to remove these seats and disinfect/burn them and spray down the interior of a freighter than a normal pax carrier. Plus the worry about any infection remaining is a lot less worrisome in a freighter than a planeload of pax.
