Just say NO to arial photography

How 'bout doing flights over NYC? I did those all the time, probably the best was right over JFK in between a set of their parallel runways at 1500' for a construction project located on the airport.

I dealt with many types of photographers - the best were the ones that I established the ground rules for before the flight (I did this later in my career

). They have to know you're in charge, and you won't be doing anything to compromise safety. Just state this in your little 'briefing' before the flight and you should do ok.

I'm not a pro pilot, but IMHO you absolutely did the right thing.

My wife's a doctor (well almost...just 3 more weeks), and the people she see in the school's clinic constantly complain about having to pay for services.

I've spoken with lawyers who win for their clients and then are told that the clients aren't going to pay.

It's stealing, if you ask me, to have a service performed for you and then not pay up. It's the same as driving a cart load of stuff out of Wal-Mart without paying.

I applaud you for standing up for yourself and pointing out the hyposcrisy of the situation to that guy.

...and sounds like that guy was a just an a**hole.

Yup, you did the right thing... and said the right thing. Well done.

I would have added that the gentleman who hired him, then should not have to pay for HIS services - just the price of the film.

Meaning: The camera doesn't work by itself and the plane doesn't fly itself (contrary to popular belief).

The guy was just being a cheap prick. Sounds like you handled it well.

It's pretty tough to even find those mermaids, much less photograph 'em....

Just keep trying, though!
