Just curious

What is shiny jet syndrome? This is probably a stupid question thats already been covered but I really dont know.

this is gonna be a fun thread to watch.

shiny jet syndrome: SJS is a disease afflicting much of todays youth. while many real pilots hand fly beech 1900's and other lesser turboprops across the country building real pilot skills taking quick upgrades and learning to be airline pilots some other "pilots" with SJS pick a company based on how big a RJ they can fly so they can tell their friends they fly a jet. :sarcasm:

sorry, just having fun.

It's funny because they only appear shiny while in flight. When you see them on the ground (particularly the belly or under engine cowlings), they are usually anything but.

there are a ton of rj guys on this forum and i'm sure they'll add to the list of what SJS kid is. basically it has to do with spikey hairstyles, highlights, wearing backpacks in uniform (though this is acceptable i think when the guy is over 35) and being proud they never had a CFI job and got to fly a shiny jet.

as i said, other SJS's have a better view of the sickness's periphery and they'll be posting shortly i hope.

It's basically throwing abandon, professional advice, money and often times common sense into the wind because of the idea that once you get into that jet, it'll magically erase all that ills.

More or less, for example, if I were to quit my 767-300 FO job, pay some shady operator $150,000 so I can go be a 747-400 Captain in Managua.

:yeahthat:Only problem is....they are not really shiney up close...more like Dirty Jet Syndrome.

Sweet, so you're saying I 'should' give up my turboprop captain job so I can go fly right seat in an E-145. After all, it would be a step up in my career 'cause I'd be flyin' a jet, YO! :sarcasm:

BTW Doug........LOVE the new avatar! Hilarious! :laff:

I wish I had SJS, maybe I would be somewhere after nearly five years here!

Keeeed. SJS is pretty much the Get-there-itis of the aviation job world. Not looking at the 'big picture'.

Also thinking you are top dog because you got hired to fly OMGAJET with your clearly wise and veteran 300 hours of flight time.

Hypothetically, if I were hirable right this instance, I would be looking at Mesaba and having DRTS (Dirty Red Turboprop Syndrome) as starting out on the big red SAAB makes too much sense for a myriad of reasons (upgrade to same equipment, pay rates same for all FOs, etc).

hey and u get to fly with me. you can have all legs if you let me sleep! lots of practice!

like DT said, looking past crap pay, hours, and life style just to fly a jet.

I wouldn't mind flying the 340 for Mesaba but I'd rather be in the flight levels in a crj.

The union definitely needs to get it's head together and get the regionals a better contract. Regardless of hours of the people coming in, no-one should make such a low wage, EVER, doing ANYTHING. I take the responsibility (yeah, I know, SIC is just Sit In Chair) very seriously and feel that the training and our equipment justifies a wayyyy better wage. Hell, I was making 35K/yr as a completely inexperienced IT person..... come to think of it I was underpaid there too.
