Just curious, which airlines hire direct entry captains?

Out of curiousity, which of the following major airlines hire direct entry captains:

1.) Southwest
2.) Delta
3.) Jet Blue

For example, if a pilot has 1000-1500 hrs PIC in a B737NG, A320 or E190 with another carrier, would that person qualify for a captain direct entry hire with SWA, Delta or Jet Blue or would he/she have to be recruited as a F/O and join the bottom of the seniority list like everyone else?

Thanks

SWA does, but they don't advertise it. You have to go in there and show them that you're DEC material, and that you're wholly overqualified to be a First Officer for them. That's what they're looking for in Captains.

Airline pilot seniority (and experience) is not portable unfortunately. It is one of the tragedies of the profession.

I hope you're joking, but just in case, no. Bottom for everyone. You know, below the people who have been in line for the last decade waiting to upgrade on the DC-9. You trying to start a riot? Get murdered?

If you want to be a DEC go to Asia, with 1000-1500 in a large narrowbody or widebody you are a prime candidate

I won't flame you like most everyone else. Here are some of the airlines I know hire Direct Entry Captains on the equipment you said:
Tianjin Airlines, China (EMB190, Airbus A320) [Will upgrade ERJ-135/145/170/190 FOs as EMB190 CA]
Hainan Airlines, China (Airbus A320)
Air China Cargo, China (Boeing 747-400)
Sichuan Airlines, China (Airbus A320)

Are you noticing a pattern here? ;)

Yes, those airlines hire DEC's......but they generally also require Time in Type.

Here's a little super-sleuthing...I'm guessing since the OP's screen name is dutch_76, (s)he is relatively new to aviation and, most likely, is currently flying a Beechcraft Duchess, equaling a loooong way to go for any type of DEC position at an airline. Let's walk before we run, m'kay?

I'll even take a stab and say they're perhaps a student at AriBen Aviator....or whatever glorified name they're calling it these days. If I'm wrong, my apologies.

So, dutch_76.....help us, help you. Share a little more of your background and perhaps the JC community can better assist you in your quest to the left seat of a turbine airplane. :)

I suppose if everyone killed themselves in a riot he would go directly to a captain seat.

Note that you will have had to have been in a four-G negative dive, in the Space Shuttle, with a MiG-25, in order to qualify. :sarcasm:

Of course! If you have like 500 hours PIC, why wouldn't you be a captain? ;)
Don't confuse Captain material with "able to hold Captain in the equipment of my choice at the domicile of my choice." Huge difference.

Unless you go to Silver or Blowjets, get in line like everyone else
As it turns out, you'll learn a ton on the way about how to do the job too. :)

If a major US airline is hiring direct entry captains, you probably don't want to work there anyway.
