Just a reminder: ACARS isn't private

A deterrent so good, not allowed outside the 50 states. No other country in the world. And somehow they manage just fine.

One bullet hole in an A320, check.

One FO threatening a CA with a gun about CA choice of diverting, check.

I have yet to meet a ‘normal’ person FFDO.
That was 15 years ago. There are some that are overzealous gun guys but plenty seem normal to me.

Once again, you are speaking on a subject you know nothing about.

I figure the FFDO bros would come out of the woodworks to defend it.

So you admit to not being knowledgeable on a subject but still ramble on as if you did?

Ahem:

Or just trolling through Cunningham's Law?

I am not defending anything, just pointing out that you know nothing about the actual program. You’ve read some daily mail articles and think you are a SME when you are clearly not.

Well, stuff over the years.

Like a new FFDO CA when I was a FO. He was new to guns and the FFDO program. Setting up a bathroom break, he had trouble taking off the holster. And never mind that, when he first got the gun out, as part of holstering on his right hip, at one point the muzzle sweep arced and momentarily pointed at my lower left leg in the arc process of getting on his right hip, as I’m in my seated position. I called him on it, politely. He got defensive. I know where that muzzle was.

Or the FFDO who left his gun in the bathroom, but luckily realized quickly and ran back to get it.

Or the FO who got on an international flight to MZT and luckily realized at the gate still had the thing on him.

And you know, 1 real live discharge so far. US Airways A320.

Stupid program that needs to end. If something deserves to be DOGE’d to save taxpayer money, it’s this.

If it's in the holster it can not discharge. If it was out of the holster he should be out of the program. IMO.

Have only flown with one FFDO, but have flown with him a few times. Great dude, really enjoy seeing him walk into the flight deck. He wasnt carrying on our most recent trip, but when he did it was never an issue. We have very similar backgrounds. Larger than life fathers, who flew mil planes back in the 50's/60's/70's, his in Venezuela. And then grew up flying his Dad's Baron. Like I grew up flying my dad's Bo'. I guess when you have a Viasa DC-10 CA dad, you get the other engine too :) Said he spent years in the jumpseat as a boy, with the old school FAs doting on him. Pretty cool.

Oh yes, years ago the GoJets FFDO who pulled over a driver at gun point after a road rage incident and called the police. The police let the other guy go, and GoJets guy in custody.
