Jumpseating on FAM flights

I never heard about asking the CA, either in school or @ my airline. I told one of the DX supervisors I needed to do my fam ride, and they took it from there. After things were set up, they simply told me when and where to show up, and to politely introduce myself to the crew & gate agent. I WAS listed on the release, of course. When the big day came, I politely introduced myself; said that I was supposed to do my fam ride (in case an FAA guy showed up and bumped me); showed my ID; then I got out of the flight crew's way as they got ready. Of course, when the one CA asked me to watch his things while he went to get coffee, I cheerfully said I would. Then, I got out of their way, so they could get the plane ready. While waiting, I sat in 'first class' on our CRJ7s and waited for the flight crew to tell me it was ok to come in and take a seat. Neither CA or FO requested my license; presentation of my ID was sufficient. That said, I'd have had NO PROBLEM showing my license had they asked.

Oh, and you know what was the best part? Hearing the company gossip! I heard about management on the outbound leg, while I got an EARFUL about one of my colleagues on the way back. Oh, how I'd LOVE to share more details, but that would be unwise. All in all, I had a good time with the guys! Now, if only there were more LEGROOM in a CRJ7's cockpit...

I, gonna say this whole post was unwise...lol

Hello folks!

I'm still working toward my ADX but had a question.

In the Regs, it says dispatchers are required to have 5 hours of familiarization (FAM) flight time in the cockpit to observe flight deck ops.

How big are the jumpseats and would I be DQ'd if I was a big guy that needed an extension (although, not by much!) to sit in the regular coach seats.

Thanks!

My airline requires no extension but im a pretty big guy and there others whoare larger who have no issue

I meant I tell the crew that. If they start being like "you know Blank?" I say "yeah. I love that guy. Best friend in the whole world"
Luigi, I'd do this for every colleague EXCEPT one-the one I was warned about! BTW, the warning I received was true, as I saw something similar play out recently...

I didn't kiss & tell; the crew spoke first. In response, I simply said I had a bad feeling about so-n-so, and the crew said that there was a REASON for that; they said to PAY ATTENTION to my unease around so-n-so. BTW, they were right. I'd love to say more, but I can't in public.
