Jumpseating Luggage

If you're jumpseating it's best not to check anything at a ticket counter. What if you cannot get on? Take your bag with you and if you get the JS ask the gate agent to gate check the bag for you. They'll send it downstairs and it goes with the rest of the pile.

Ideally, you'll pack so you don't need to check anything.

It's not a 22" rollaboard, it's a regular check-in size bag. And the flights tomorrow look very nice, I shouldn't have a problem in terms of loads.

Oh ok, thank you.

I guess it would look awkward going through KCM with a check-in size bag. I wish DL and UA would switch to myIdtravel for JS listings, that way one could have a 6-digit PNR code that could be used to check in a bag at the counter.

Our guide says to list at the gate, too. Just last week, however, I listed at the ticket counter with no trouble. I didn't check a bag, though.

You can often times list at the counter, check your bag there and then go "check in" and clear cass for the jumpseat at the gate. Depends on the airport and airline though.

I've had Delta list me numerous times at the ticket counter outside of security, for the jumpseat. Try it, if they say go to the gate so be it, but you just might score a listing/check your bags and be on your way.

Yeah, sounds like a plan. I'll see how it goes, and I'll go in uniform. Worse case scenario, they don't or can't list me at the counter and so I buy a ZED ticket and check the bag in that way.

Will let ya'll know how it works out.

Best jumpseat in the world? The old America West.
This was one of my favorites. I got done with my shift, I was all packed and ready to go. They pulled up next door, I walked up in overalls, asked if I could catch a ride home. They said yes, and away we went!

Hopefully with all four engines actually running?

Went in uniform to EWR checkin counter, guy took me no problem. Well, he had to call over another employee (sup?) but it all worked out. Listed and checked the bag in at the counter.

Anything that stands out about that versus stuff today? What made ‘em good?

They were one of the first to go to unlimited cabin jumpseats (when most other carriers were limiting it to the number of actual jumpseats in the cockpit. You could list at the gate pretty much up until the door closed. They were really nice about it. Always.

NWA was back in the day for jumpseats...Usually got FC to IAD on the Diesel 9.

I wish Delta would allow pre-listing. I swear 1/2 the agents ask me why I didn't pre-list and act annoyed by having to do the jumpseat listing. In the past I have been able to list at the ticket counter and check a bag. It is tagged standby and will get loaded last.
