Jumpseating - Lost a Gate Checked Bag

etflies

Keeping calm, Chiving on.
Hey All,

I jumpseated on Continental 1131 from IAH-IAD on 12/30/11 and had to gate check my stuff. One of my bags showed up at baggage claim, the other, unfortunately did not. I went to the bag office and they worked their magic and couldn't find it anywhere in the system. I filed an online report for the stuff via Continental's website, does anybody have any other ideas about what I might be able to do or am I stuck hoping for the best?

Thanks for the help!

The agent at the end of the jetway gave me grief about asking the guys to put it up front, and it was close to departure time so I let them have it. My first mistake, I know.

It has a crew tag attached to the handle at the top, with my name and contact information plus the gate check tag that was put on it.

As things progress, you'll also find that the airlines won't deliver bags for non-revs (been there, done that). If they don't recognize that you're a non-rev they may do it, but plan on having to retrieve it on your own (assuming it is ever located).

My thoughts exactly. It hardly had to move, now its gone.

I don't mind going to pick it up, I just want it to be found.

I had the same thing happen a few years ago...man I miss that bag.

That always makes me mad how us commuters constantly get the shaft on that. I love my southern jets most of the time, but on average the flight/inflight crew couldn't give two deuces about me or getting my bag getting on.

Good luck to you.

Very sorry to hear, I often have to check on CO, I mean United.

It does shock me how many crews simply don't care about this stuff. Perhaps they don't need to care, but aside from who is taking who's flying and other airline BS, we are all in this mess together and trying to get to work.

If you ever observe me not helping a crew member get on our lonely turbo prob, or fetching his / her bag from the 40min gate check line, please kick me where it counts.

Good luck.

On Delta, it's all about the "Yellow Tag". If you've got to check a bag, remind them that you don't have a yellow tag or if someone's got a spare tag. Basically, they won't take it to baggage claim, will leave it on the ramp and if they do you a solid and bring it up. At least I would. And have.

Check with lost and found at IAD. This happened to me at another airport. I was working crew, and for whatever reason just walked away from my gate-checked bag. Ground crew ended up taking it to lost and found.

I'll be sure and try the lost and found, I'm not too hopeful otherwise since it didn't even show up as being scanned anywhere in the system last night.

Hey guys, I got it back, I took the direct flight while my bag decided to skip the 30ft trip into the cargo hold and go via OKC and ORD. Thanks for the replies, Happy New Year to all!

I always try and get the yellow tag and the gate agents always give me hog wash about not having any or they don't do that or it's for Southernjets people only...blah blah blah. Anyway I secured one a while ago and I am going to laminate it and use it.

Congrats, glad to hear it was a happy ending.

Oh and dont take crap from gate agents, they always bitch about having to do their job
