Jumpseaters, follow the rules!

In the FO's defense, I've had more than a few DAL Captains tell me that I don't need to come to the cockpit when I'm given a seat in the back. I always do, but some of your guys seem to think it's not required.

It's the same when flying armed. Sometimes the Capt will want a visit, other times he's happy with what he saw with the gate paperwork, and the gate agent relays that there's no need to make a visit. Either way, I'll always confirm, as it's the appropriate thing to do; and the default will always be to make a quick hello to the Capt without being overly obvious to others.

Wow, I've *never* flown with a captain who did not want a visit from LEO's for at least an ID and paperwork check and to figure out where they were sitting. It would be a huge no-no for one to not check in.

I of course always check in with the gate agent, and from there the gate agent lets me know whether the Capt wants to see me or not. Even of the Capts I have seen, only a couple have ever wanted an ID check (which I don't mind, if it can be done discreetly), and most go off the paperwork that the gate agent gives to them anyway, that I gave to the gate agent.

I always ask for an ID, sorry. :D Actually, it's required by my FOM that I meet any armed passengers beforehand. No exceptions.

I'll always chat with the person away from the other passengers, but you guys going through the exit side of the security checkpoint isn't very discreet in the first place. ;)

And I go along with whatever requirements the particular airline has, no probs there. All I ask is you be as discreet as reasonably possible.

Different airports do it any number of different ways, some good, some not so good insofar as trying to be discreet......so make do with whatever is going on at the time, is all I can do.
