I'm not beotching, just being factual. With United it's all over the place. Some do require a passport while others don't. With Delta they say passport but in every case I've had they have also been okay with a DL. I usually always have a passport with the exception of when it was in for renewal and the one time I forgot it at home.

With Delta it may or may not require a passport. It will, however, print your passport number regardless as the one that prints on the pass is taken from the CASS database and not from agent input.

I was pretty much always asked for my passport when I was commuting on United, Delta or Southwest. Frontier and Alaska never asked that I can recall.

Delta requests it but will accept a DL for the CASS request. I think the gate agent manual requires a passport, but the FOM doesn't. At least, that's how the Delta guys explained it to me when I sent my passport in for renewal. That could've changed since 2008... And likely has!

I'd rather not find out. My name and passport number are on that pass. One could use it to fabricate a 'fake' passport and try and use it to gain access at places. Maybe not to travel and make it into the US but maybe to gain access to an embassy.

I just don't like ANY of my own personal numbers to be out there..... passport, DL, birthdate, SSN, anything.

You should relax or you're going to die young and none of it will matter. There are companies out there that will keep an eye on your identity if it will help you sleep at night. I cover my ATM PIN but not crazy about the rest, if a professional wants your info they can get it.

Don't overcomplicate getting on the jumpseat. If the agent wants to see it, just do it.

Whenever I've had to ride in the cockpit on USAirways out of JFK to PHX, I've had to show my passport, so I do it.

You're getting a free ride on an airline you don't work for. It's magic. Don't oyer-complicate the situation.

If you're that paranoid, I probably don't want you sitting within stabbing range of me in the cockpit anyway.
