Jumpseat with United

What is way to list to jumpseat on United. Would it be the same with United connection as wellHave never done it on them before.

For mainline United flights you can list with the Agent either at the ticket counter or Gate.

If the flight is operated by a regional carrier then only the gate agent can list you. For some reason those regional United flights doesn't allow the ticket counter agent to list you.

If you're worried about getting through security without an actual boarding pass, the ticket counter agent can always give you a gate pass to satisfy the friendly folks at TSA.
 
I find it that in ORD no boarding/gate pass is needed if you just tell them you are jumpseating. By far the best airport I've experienced this at.
 
CASS rules require you to list at the gate. If TSA is going to give you a hard time about not having a boarding pass (which they shouldn't), then go to the ticket counter.
 
I've been on a 2-leg commute since last September. I'm sitting in IAH, this minute, waiting on my second try (third if you count the one I missed by 3 minutes due to late inbound).
For the umpteenth time, I was just told:
- you can't jump seat
- okay, but only in the main cabin
- you're in CASS? Well if a pilot comes along he will have priority
-Fine, but I'll have have to check the policy.

SHEESH!
 
Update: another pilot (from my own company) did come along, knew the deal and left to go catch his backup plan. The agent had the CA check his FOM, and of course, I'm good to go. Then the Agent can't work the system well enough to get it to verify me in CASS and despite the Captains assurances, the agent denied me boarding; so I run for the backup plan where my company Captain already has the one jump....waiting on the next try...
I'm posting this as a warning as much as a rant. You can cruise along for months without a problem; then you have a day like today: brought to you by weather combined with incompetence and prejudice.

I hope it opens up for you. The WX in IAH been terrible the last few days. My wife had to buy a ticket on our metal ELP-IAH yesterday things backed up so bad. With one jumpseater missing that same flight as well.
 
I know a lot of captains who would have stood there breathing down the CSRs neck until they figured out how to make the system work. Delaying the flight. It's nice when some of them have a spine ...
