July 1st TRACON Basics

I just hung up with a nice woman by the name of Robin at the FAA Academy and she confirmed that TRACON-Only applicants who start on 07/01/2009 will continue through Intro to Radar and RTF until 09/14/2009. September 15th is a paid travel day and the 16th is the soonest that we could be expected to report to work at our assigned facilities. But don't forget that 64-hour allotment in the first 2 years of work as a controller to be used for paid relocation purposes!

I'm looking at the course schedule:
Tracon basics 5/14-6/18
Intro to Radar control: 6/18-6/30
Terminal basic radar: 7/01-7/28[/QUOTE]

got my packet from FAA today and the time line is correct down to the day.

I try ;)

Maybe I should quit flight instructing for the next 8 weeks and apply to schedule y'all for OKC class dates. I obviously have it down to a science! Like a good final approach controller once said - "It's sleek...It's crisp...Is that crisp vectoring or what?! I've got 'em lined up like Rockettes!"

Pushing Tin anyone? LOL :nana2:

First of all, Congrats to all of you guys coming to PCT! We are already talking about you all.

Now as far as the tracon training schedule, it's simple. We spent the first 5 weeks in basics. After that, it's all pretty much tracon training. We went over some more .65 stuff, but most of the time was spent learning tracon techniques and such. The last 2 weeks is spent in the radar labs.

Have fun out there in OKC. We are sitting here talking about how looking back, we really had a lot of fun out there. No responsibilities, just go to class, study, then enjoy your free time. If you're coming to PCT, KNOW THE 7110.65. The test we have here are harder than anything at the academy. We work hard, very hard, but it's not something you can't handle if you have to correct mindset.

That is the same thing i was wondering, so if you findout anything else i would love to know because i am trying to plan to move to a new state and not knowing when is kind of a pain.

Hey Yank&bank maybe you can shed some light

Yep post #23 sounds right, plan on 10-11 weeks(mine was 10 &1/2 weeks), give or take holidays and bad wx days. Most of the housing places can easily change dates if you leave earlier.

Oh, s905 if you need a place to stay I have an empty room in my house, been renting it out to pilots for $400 month flat rate.
I recommend a Tracon visit during training one weekend, and u can stay here so you dont have to get a hotel.

training progress
Flight Data- check, 20 scopes to go

Thx Yank, I will take you up on that. Do u have any contact info for who i should get with to get a tour?

In an effort to bring our thread back to the top, I'm curious what the mix of JC'ers (and possibly SM'ers) is that's attending the 07/01/09 class date. So far it seems like Detroit TRACON, Potomac TRACON, and DTW Tower. Any other takers?

See y'all in about 3 weeks!

So I just found out I am in the 7/01 basics class, but I am headed for SLC Tower and not a Tracon. Just curious if there are anymore Tower guys in the 7/1 class.

It's terminal basics, so I believe it's the same thing. I'm in an up/down facility going to the 7/14 class. See you guys there!

yeah, I know it is a Terminal basics, so Up/downs, Tower, and Tracon are all rolled into one..... but reading thru the post on this thread, I don't think I saw one person other than myself that was Tower only or an up/down. I am just trying to see if anyone out there will be continuing on with me to Tower training after basics.

Ah.. yeah, I'm 2 weeks behind you. I wanted 7/1, but got 7/14 instead

Is anyone staying at Sally Bommarito's house in OKC?

She has posted on here before, advertising her housing and I'm supposed to be staying here as of Monday but I haven't been able to get in touch with her. I'm just trying to find anyone else who is either staying here now or supposed to be staying here in the near future to figure out what's going on. Thanks :dunno:
