Anyone here work for JSX and can speak on how the dispatch side of operations is.
Yeah, it's the most relaxed environment you could be a part of. Because it's 135 you don't hold operational control, that is put on the supervisors.
80-90% of the flight plans are done the night before so if you work evenings you come in and flight monitor until your last 3-5 hours of your shift and then you pretty much just do flight plans for the next day. In the mornings you finish what is left and review the day. Everything else is just flight monitoring and the occasional weather brief with a pilot. But even then, JSX operates primarily in the southwest, so most of the time the weather is fantastic.
There is a crew scheduling side of the job because there aren't any "Crew Schedulers" here, but it's primarily assigning short calls and taking sick calls so finding a replacement for the next day. Anything outside of the 48 hour period is not our problem, or if it doesn't directly affect operations, also not our problem.
On busy days like Sundays and Mondays there will be about 150 flights on about 45 aircraft, and on slow days like Tuesdays and Wednesdays usually around 60. The schedules are coordinated with traffic, so Sundays and Mondays you will have 3 or maybe even 4 DXs and on slow days you'll have 2.
The crew that works in the office is full of relaxed people, there are plenty who are very opinionated, but unlike some other places I worked, no one here gets into screaming matches or anything.
Software we use:
ArincDriect - Flight planning (It sucks soo much ass)
NavBlue - Gantt and crew scheduling
WSI Fusion - Weather
Slack - Station communications
The job doesn't pay very well, but it's manageable. But if you prioritize lack of stress over money, I would say it's worth it.
Personal note:
I was a Dispatcher and Manager at Silver Airways before they shut down and the environment over there was very stressful and extremely toxic from the highest level individuals. JSX doesn't come with anything worth bragging about and a lot of "serious dispatchers" would call the operation a joke, but honestly working here has saved my mental state and I was ready to give up on this career but this was a good reset for me. I have an interview with United in a couple days and whether I get that position or not JSX will likely be hiring more in the next 3-6 months.
If anyone has any more specific questions, let me know. I'm happy to answer!
