Hi everyone! Long time lurker here, finally made an account so I can "lurk" publicly now. I'm currently working in ground ops for Southwest and looking to transition into dispatch. I graduated an atc-cti program in 2011 and received my dispatch license as well that same year. With the grim outlook into atc given my age (28) and their turbulent hiring practices, I've focused my efforts into dispatch. My question is this: are there any recurrent training programs or classes I can take? I've forgotten the majority of what I've learned over 4 years ago. Recently I've gone over the ATP gleim book and reading wx charts/theory but I still feel woefully underprepared.

The second part of my question - would I be better off dispatching for a regional at my age for a few years and then jump to a major or continue in ground ops in the hope they prioritize internals?

Welcome! I feel your pain, as I am also a CTI grad...all the way back in 2010. What a wait it has been. Dispatch is a fun career! Just chiming in to offer some review advice in the way of materials where you could study on your own.

The first thing I recommend, and still periodically review myself is "Everything Explained for the Professional Pilot" (This is a great resource for both pilots and dispatchers!)

Also, another review resource that I would recommend is the ASA Oral Exam Guide - Dispatcher -- which I think would be a good review as well (I also personally review this from time to time).

Anyways, good luck!

Yep, also a CTI grad here. I haven't aged out, but am no longer pursuing ATC. I just accepted a position at a major so my route is a little different than others. Good luck to everyone.

Bought both books thanks! The Richie Lengel book is very in depth and a tad daunting but the ASA oral exam guide has been wonderful.

I want to thank everyone else for their advice and input. At this point I'll most likely start applying to regionals once I feel I'm up to speed on the dx stuff, hopefully at or around my 29th birthday :)
