Joining the Pink Mustache Crew

I'd be very careful using Lyft or über. If your own insurance company finds out your vehicle is being used for commercial privileges, they (depending on your policy) may drop you on the spot/ deny any claims.

That's why you check first.
On a whim I did. None of the major carriers provide livery coverage on a personal vehicle. During the time between "lyfts" you would not be covered.

Further issue, most states require additional registration and licensing for commercial vehicles, so ride share operators could be subject to fees, and fines.

I guess for me I just don't see enough positive in it to ever try- best of luck to those who do though!

No sympathy for cab companies.

They stink
they rip you off
no customer service

I use Uber or Lyft in every city I am in and I will never go back to taxis.

Question: Do you cash tip Uber drivers? I know lyft has a tip option on the app but don't see that on Uber. I have actually had some Uber drivers tell me "thanks, but a tip is not necessary"

I've been told that most people only tip if the driver goes "above and beyond." So that's what I do. I only use Uber Black, though, so regular Uber could be different.

I absolutely loathe cabbies. Especially cabbies in Las Vegas. There are some good ones, but many of them are entitled, scammy and are doing their best to create a west coast version of Atlantic City.

Took a cab on a relatively short-length fare a couple days ago and "Oh, I know short cut, you want take short cut?"

I said, "We're here very often in Las Vegas, tell me about this… short cut" and you could just see him deflate.

You're heavy and you hurt my thighs, and were waaaaaay too loud in my ear, the whole time!

While I still don't think it makes any sense for most airline pilots to do this unless you're on first year FO pay, I have to say I'm a big fan of Lyft. We used it several times last week, and I was really impressed with how professional the drivers were and how affordable the fares are.

If you were bored and wanted some more scratch, why wouldn't it make sense?

If I was bored I would:

Ride my mountain bike
Ride my road bike
Go snowboarding
Go hiking
Go rock climbing
Drink beer

If I needed money I'd look for a trip in open time and pick it up.

Never, ever, would the idea of driving strangers around in traffic enter my head as something to do for fun. But that's me. If you like doing that, cool!
