John Travolta irks Qantas crews.......

Why wouldn't he have chosen to pretend to be a Pan Am pilot? Double-breasted suit, white hate, couldn't have painted the 707 in Pan Am colors. Or TWA with the red arrowhead and globe livery.

Scientologist...duh

I don't see why he has a 707, wouldn't a DC-8 be a better plane for someone of his beliefs???

Convair 880 or 990 FTW!

Haha, I thought that Scientologist believed that the evil space lord Zenu had spaceships that looked like DC-8 with rocket motors?

I do agree though, a Convair 880 or 990 is the best of the first generation airliners.

I LOVE THIS PICTURE:

I would just be annoyed that he is wearing a uniform for an airline that would normally be reserved for someone who has worked very hard in their career to get to a place like Qantas. Then he starts up with "this is your Captain." It would be different if they threw him into a regular suit and gave a few second blurb about being a fan of Qantas safety. Lose the airline pilot guy stuff.

It left me with a bad taste. Cheap (poor) commercial in my opinion. I wonder if he got paid fot it. It would be wrong to spend company money on such a commercial.

Qantas was fine with it back in the mid-2000s when he was acting as an "ambassador" for them doing goodwill flights, promo stuff and even flying the Aussie team to the World Cup. Now that he's basically nuttier than a fruit cake and actually PROUD of being in Battlefield Earth, he's more of an embarrassment.....

Ehh, let's not start a "Har har, that religion is doofus" thread because well, everyone's except my own undisclosed leanings are doofus! :) How's that?

BUT, I didn't think it was that bad.

Sure beats my own airline's where I always wonder "Who in the WORLD are those pilots? ARE they even pilots?!"

Thats like being bothered by an actor playing in a movie and wearing a cop/military/fire department/etc etc uniform. You obviously know that they aren't really what they're playing, and that (in this case) its only a commercial.

No need to be annoyed.

Yea, Travolta is a nutjob - like Cruise he's fallen into the trap of thinking because he has money and fame that he is better than everyone else.

But I do think that this commercial, and the DAL commercial highlighting the quality of pilots and their training is a good thing. The more the public cares about having a "good" pilot the better.

Dough, I kinda like the new Delta commercials...maybe not the best for you, but for the target audience, who can't tell the difference between a pilot and a doorman anyway....not so bad.

No, the NEW Delta commercials rock! I love 'em and I know about half of the people in them.

But the safety video, in my opinion, has a couple people whom I have never seen and I don't know if they're actors or real people.

To be clear, the new commercial, is phenomenal. Safety Video? Not so much IMHO.

For those with access to Deltanet there's an interesting "making of" video somewhere in there.

Is that the one with the pilots and whatnot going through training?

Sure beats my own airline's where I always wonder "Who in the WORLD are those pilots? ARE they even pilots?!"

No, that's just how pretentious double-breasted-blazer Delta pilots view other pilots. :)

I did get a chuckle out of the sim instructor teaching the simulator crew how to takeoff using his hand - and you could read his lips saying "up up up up up" .. A bit primary for anyone who works at DAL i'd say, but the commercial gets its point across.

Travolta is the biggest tool in aviation. I cringe every time I hear him talk. I remember him on Letterman one time telling everyone that he had his "jet" license. Where do you get one of those Jonny?

I don't know if any of you ever looked at his certificate on the FAA database but it's kind of interesting how his B707 type rating is "SIC PRIV ONLY" yet he has no problem wearing that Quantas costume with 4 stripes and telling everyone this is your "captain" . Yeah if I were a real Qantas Captain I'd probably be offended.

LoL..

Yea but dude, he's been a pilot for 40 years! A true ace of the base..

Its a safety video and he's an actor. Everyone knows that John Travolta is an actor and not a real Qantas pilot.

Should I be upset that he was wearing a flightsuit with USAF Major rank in the movie Broken Arrow?
