Jobs for aspiring pilots?

A friends father who used to be an instructor and currently sells airplanes recommended that I seek a job with the FAA as an air traffic controler to get my foot in the door. I'd like to hear some suggestions and general input about this and other recommended jobs for aspiring pilots.

I'm still trying to get on with Horizon ground crew, but being a student I have some scheduling issues. You have to do what ever it takes to get your foot in the door.
 
While chasing a flying career, I briefly worked in ATC. ATC is a separate career path. It's not a foot in the door for a flying job. ATC in no way helps you move up the flying ladder....though you learn a lot about the system by working in it.

. I love my job on the line at a corporate outfit; I have learned a lot and had endless networking opporitunities. Its just that if you are in the right mood (ie. goofy) and you have serviced what seems 20 lavs in one day, you can get tricks played on your senses!

One idea would be to try and get a job with an airline such as a Ramp agent or Gate position. I've known a few guys that worked for a Regional Airline for a few years and flight instructed the same time and then got an interview for a FO position.

This is the route that I am going to take. I just finished my enlistment in the U.S. Air Force and am living in Indiana right now. I just got offered a job working as a Gate Agent for Comair Airlines at Orlando International starting in January so I'll be moving there shortly. At the same time, I plan on working on my CFI at a local flight school and hopefully start instructing. Good luck on whatever route you decide to take.
