Job Searching

RWH1986

Some Guy
I have been looking for a job flying with low hours until I get my CFI and can start instructing. I was wondering where people look to find these jobs because I am not finding anything right now!

I know there is someone that flies a skyhawk around the valley under the call sign traffic watch. Let me see what I can find.

I used to be the Lead Pilot of that company back in 1994. Wrote their Ops Manual for them.

I don't think the company exists anymore a search came up with nothing. Traffic watch I know 2 people that fly for the company that does it but they arent hiring anybody right now but they will let me know when they do!

When I was there, we had 3 planes running 2 contracts. I do know one of the contracts no longer flies.......550 KFYIs traffic guy now works out of the office with links to all the ADOT traffic cams on the freeways and monitoring DPS (State Police) freqs. The other guy, I believe, is still airborne, but who knows for how long.

Traffic Watch is no longer a viable thing to do in many cities with the traffic cams now. And plus, traffic reporting is nothing more than a time filler on the radio anyway; the info being normally obsolete right after its broadcast.

For very low time jobs it's all foot work. People will hire people, but not post an ad. Want traffic watch, go hang out at the airport in the morning and see if some SEL aircraft always heads out and back at the same time. Might be a good gig needing some help. Washing aircraft, phone calls for charters, etc. For low time it's all face to face.

This may not work for low time, but when I was looking into corporate aviation, I got on flightaware.com. I was able to look up tail numbers of some of the jets coming into the airport to see who they were registered to.

That is a good idea, but how would you go about determining who the plane was registered with? Is there a website?

If you're willing to go on the road for months at a time the Pictometry operators are a good gig. I do believe there's one based in AZ. Do a search and you'll find tons of info.

DWAS is moving its base to Washington as they got bought by a new owner. They just fired their mechanic too.

I Think there is a Company in Page AZ that Does Lake and Canyon Tours under a Part 91 operation ( less than 25 NM from the Airport without Landing so no need for 135 Cert) If i remember they are called American Aviation, Also based in UT.

Hope this helps , Good Luck.
