Overview

The dispatcher is regularly assigned as a representative of the Company to exercise joint operational control with the Captain, within a prescribed area or on an assigned route and to ensure the safety and efficiency of operation in accordance with Federal Aviation Regulations, Company Flight Manuals, Company Operations Manuals, Company Policy/Procedures Manual and United Airlines-Professional Airline Flight Control Association (PAFCA) Collaborative Bargaining Agreement.

  • Responsible for preparing the flight release and monitoring its progress, analyzing and disseminating meteorological information, reviewing maintenance limitations and computing the amount of fuel required for safe flight.
  • Required to maintain qualification and competency in accordance with FAA and UAL requirements including a personal responsibility to ensure you are current and proficient for the region you are dispatching.
  • Read and sign-off all dispatch e-bulletins and advisories issued since last day on duty.
  • Conduct all flight operations assigned to them in accordance with Company & FAA regulations and procedures.
  • Flight planning, performance calculations, flight monitoring, weather and operational advisory service.
  • While on duty make a careful check, monitor, and analyze weather conditions over regular and alternative routes, changes in routes navigational facilities, field conditions, inoperative navigational facilities, and two way radio communications (ground stations).
  • Provide Pilot In Command (PIC) with all available current reports or information on airport conditions and irregularities of navigational facilities that may affect the safety of flight.
  • Provide the PIC with all available weather reports and forecasts of weather phenomena that may affect the safety of flight, including but not limited to adverse weather phenomena, such as clear air turbulence, thunderstorms, and low-level wind-shear, for each route to be flown and each airport to be used.
  • Provide the PIC, during the flight, with any additional or amended information regarding meteorological conditions outlined above as well as irregularities of facilities and services that may affect safety of flight.
  • Provide on the job training as required based on experience and qualifications.
  • Accept special assignments as needed to support company objectives and the operational goals.
  • The Dispatcher is the focal point for operational concerns affecting flights under his control including acting as first point of contact on all operational concerns or issues.
  • Interacts with other United Airlines departments including Maintenance Control, Operations Planning, and Meteorology.

Qualifications

Education
  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Bachelor's Degree is desired or equivalent experience in a FAR Part 121 operation.
  • Must have an FAA Issued Aircraft Dispatch License.
Experience
  • Prefer at least 2 years flight operations experience.
  • Strongly prefer a minimum 1+ years domestic and/or international FAR Part 121 jet dispatching.
Skills
  • Strong organization and communication skills couples with a high work ethic.
  • The ability to multi task and perform well under stressful conditions with little direct supervision.
Other
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship.
  • Must be willing to relocate to Chicago (moving assistance provided).
  • Must be able and willing to work any shift/any day including holidays and weekends in a 24 hour operation.
  • Must pass TSA/FBI background check and DOT drug screen.
