Job Opening at CHQ

So a CHQ EMB-135 nailed the retaining wall today in TLH, and bent up the leading edge of the left wing. Its kinda hard to hit that wall, you gotta be waay off.

Guess there will be some openenings with CHQ.

Hard to avoid hitting something on the airplane that you can't see. Thats what wing walkers and marshallers are for. We do our best and stay vigilant, but ultimately thats why why can't taxi out or in without a marshaller. It could have been either pilot or rampers fault, but not knowing anything about this particular case, I won't speculate.

Maybe you should add "possible job opening for Comair ramper"?

The rampers here work for a company called GAT.

Kinda funny, huh?

I definitely understand the need for marshallers, and wing walkers. When I worked for Capitol Cargo, one of my jobs was to marshall the bird in because I was the only one there with any knowledge of aviation (not like it really matters). The last guy let the 727 hit a catering truck. Even when taxiing my lil birds around a tight area I prefer someone watching my plane.

Ever notice (as a passenger) how the wing walkers just walk with the plane and dont normally pay attention to what they're doing? It seems like they never expect anything to happen.

Not sure where the "retaining wall" is, but if the plane hits something while taxiing into a gate, the rampers are the ones who are gonna get it. 'Course we all know Nole has it in for the CHQ "throttle jockeys."

In my 3 years of working on airline ground crews, I have seen planes hit a lot of things. I have never seen anyone fired for it, though. Suspended? Yep. Fired? No. It has to be a consistant trend of metal bending to get fired. That person probably got pulled and drug tested immediately, and they'll have a nice unpaid vacation until the results come back.

Dang, good memory kell.

I guess it would be more of the ramper's fault then the pilot's. I arrived at the airport just as they we're towing it away, so I just heard what happened from other pilots, etc.

All CHQ pilots are idiots. Maybe you can snatch one of those openings up and show um how its done.

But ummmm aren't you a CHQ pilot....?

Nope, wasn't a Comair ramper! Delta or Delta Global does TLH. Comair does EYW, FLL, and MCO is the hub. What time did this happen?

Happened around 5pm, and the only rampers that work the TLH ramp for Delta work for a company called GAT. They also handle Gulfstream/COEX. The only company rampers at TLH work for Northwest. Im not sure about who works USAir.

H46....Im sure you didn't take it the wrong way, but re-reading my previous post almost sounds like Im targeting/bashing Comair rampers...which isn't the case. In fact, you guys do an awesome job in FLL and MCO....makes flying the Delta side a little too easy!

It would be hard to fault the ramper to much if they hit a permanant structure. I have no idea where they hit or why, but I do remember it being somewhat tight over there, but there is a yellow line that keeps ya clear. Guess we'll find ot later.

Not taken the wrong way. The Comair pilots are pretty boring to talk to during pushback. I've had some pretty funny discussions with you CHQ pilots. Most of the current Comair pilots on the MCO flights are pretty ancient. It's also nice to see some DCA faces once and a while here at MCO.

This reminds me of something funny. Our moving map display in the 117 is loaded through a cartridge called a DDC, and pre-programmed on the ground by the planning cell. It contains maps in 10/25/50/100 and 140 mile increments, corresponding to 1:100,000, 1:250,000, 1:500,000, 1:1,000,000, and 1:2,000,000 (JOG/TPC/JNC/ONC charts). Prior to deployment, someone loaded Playboy centerfold scans onto my 10 mile and 140 mile displays.

Crew Chief claimed ignorance when I asked.......
