Job Offer

I was recently offered a job ferrying airplanes around the country for a dealer. He mainly sells pipers and light twins. He said he moves about 10-20 planes a month between his two locations in two different states. Would this be a quality way to build time since I do not have a CFI yet and want to get with the airlines?

This would be a good job to take because you will fly someone elses equipment in different weather. I would jump on that deal if it was offered to me, I am a CFI/CFII/MEI. If the pay is right and you fly often, take it!
 
If you don't mind me asking, how did you find the job? Through networking? Or was the position advertised to the public?
 
I actually have known the dealer for a few years now. It was not an advertised spot. I called him and asked him if I could do some ferrying for him because I wanted to build some acceptable hours for an airline job since I dont have my CFIIME and really can not afford it right now. He told me it would work out well b/c deliveries tie his hands up. Right now he is moving anywhere from 10-20 aircraft a month from two locations in Maryland and Kentucky.

Wages

He typically charges around $150 per day for pilot services. Sometimes it is negotiated into the cost of the plane. Either way I will make around $100-150 per day. The charts, fuel, hotel, food, and other fees including the return air fare is covered by the buyer. I figure its not a bad way to earn a couple thousand a month while earning valuable time.
 
Sounds like a really good opportunity. You'll probably never fly to the same place more than once! Talk about good experience building your cross-country time.

That makes the offer even better...that's just chump change for the guy that's buying the plane at $100,000+!

10 to 20 planes a month???? Good lord that's a ton of sales activity.

Anyway, sounds like an awesome job - definatley take it!
 
This particular dealer was the leading Piper dealer several years in a row. I think it would be a good opportunity to save some cash to pay for my CFI ratings.
