Job fair in Vegas

Over 250 on the list to visit with the Spirit folks. I overheard a regional rep say they actually visited with a lot more than they had hoped. I visited with a couple myself, though hopeful to hear back from spirit to get the "long form". I have one job offer out of it otherwise, and one interview invite.
Outlook for the future seems to be...the regionals are the regionals and the ones there (with the exception of horizon) seem to want to hire anyone wih an atp or close to it. I have an atp and over 5k TT, but not sure I am real competitive for the big ones with only a little over a grand of turbine in my logbook. A group of my comrades from last job were all there too and the regionals were all but falling over themselves to get any one of us to a class it seemed! Tho it will be a sharp reduction in standard of living for any of us to do it, some of us will in order to keep working and current, etc. Quoting the CEO of Aerocrewsolutions..."the jobs are there folks, just be patient"

The blue suit index was pretty high.
Don't forget to volunteer at the soup kitchen on your precious few days at home.. ;)

I went there feeling optimistic and left feeling dejected. To see so many highly qualified great guys clamoring for chance at a formal interview was pretty sobering. I met a bunch of people with interesting stories. It's sad how many guys I met that were on their 3rd 4th and even 5th airline and none had made it to the big show yet. I met a girl I used to work with on her 5th airline. She is now an FO again at a less than stellar regional. After 2 trans cons, $250 in entrance fees and hotels and 40 hours away from home, I left feeling less than enthusiastic with my 4 minutes of face time with a recruiter.

Don't know how to respond. Can't argue with honesty. A shame how the industry has changed..Thanks for sharing

I was a rep for Boeing in late October 2001 at the SIU Carbondale Aviation Career Fair. Its a mixed event yearly with 70% pilot recruiters and the rest between A&P, Ops, MFG and Airport management.

Boy that year was a tough one, watching a lot of folks I graduated with back looking for anything available after 9/11. Most of us there weren't even hiring, just grabbing resumes as we had previously paid for our spot and too late to cancel.

I was actually thinking the same thing exactly.

I was lucky enough to get an email with the long application this morning but it was kinda bittersweet. After meeting a bunch of the guys and hearing their stories it really makes you sick the way this industry operates. I met a guy that was at Comair for like 19 years and now on the street.

I still say the guy that thought up the idea of the Regional Jet should be stoned to death at one of these job fairs. I miss the days of turboprops and Boeings/MDs only. Learn to fly on a TP while getting abused for only a few years then get rewarded by making it to the show. Whatever happened to "commuter" airlines?

Thank you Bombardier R&D department.

What was your number for the day?

While people have their own reasons for wanting to go the airline route, this should be a required reading statement for people who come to this website with questions. It doesn't get much more plain than that to take the SJS out of your eyes.
