3500 total pilots. Figure 1/3 of them were flying that day. That leaves around 2300 who may have been available. That means one in three pilots who were available showed up to picket in New York City in 20’ weather in January!
Sounds pretty darned overwhelming to me!

I’ll throw much admiration to the SPSComittee for the overall level of organization of the event. Staging that amount of guys in the tight confines of Long Island City in Queens was no small feat. Things as seemingly simple as crossing the streets and not blocking crosswalk entries were all things they had to contend with. The SPSC and the pilots were all there for a successful event, I didn’t see any shenanigans, guys went where they were told, minimal talking, no cell phones. Honest to god I didn’t see a single phone out once we were picketing.
