Jet transition/type rating

Pilotman83,

I think it would be most beneficial to take it one step at a time. If you intend on getting those other ratings first, I would stop trying to figure out what step you are going to take a couple miles down the road. Personally, I feel it would be a waste of your money to pay for a course that guarantees you nothing. The best thing you could do for yourself is to spend wisely. If you are going to spend your money use it for flight time, utilize your money to meet people, find others who can teach you things, etc. If you do it right, someone else will be willing to pay for those courses for you (a type, or a transition course), not the other way around. If it worked for me, it can work for anyone.

Thanks for all the feedback! I should have clarified this before, but I do plan on completing all my ratings first, which won't take long in the program I am in. I am just looking into what my options are for preparing for a career in the regionals/majors.

Take the time to actually learn to fly small airplanes well, it'll pay off in the long run. Get a tailwheel endorsement, go fly upside down, land in some dirt, fly a seaplane, fly pipeline patrol, teach other pilots how to do that stuff. Join a CAF chapter... Don't be afraid to fly outside the box (unless you fly competition acro, then you better stay in it...) and try different things. For god's sake just have fun for a while. When things get boring, then go find a real job.
